Probably a stupid question...

But, maybe someone can point me to the right spot for this...

I am looking for a shopping cart system that is easy to use and that will allow for a consumer to customize a product before submitting to the cart.

Example:

I have murals for sale. These murals come in any size. So a consumer can choose any size for the mural. That size is taken into account and a square footage is determined and based on that, the price is determined.

So, can i have this customization. I have seen it with other carts, so I assume it is possible. Is this a feature that is offered with Zen Cart or is it something I will need to customize myself?

Thanks for any help with this, I really appreciate it.

Re: Probably a stupid question...

There is no such thing as a stupid question, but I've given some pretty stupid answers in my time.

Hopefully this isn't one of them.

I think it can be done easily enough just by using the weight as the square footage, you just have to change the title of the fields and use the free shipping mod to counter act any errors that would be caused by not having a shipping mod activated.

You can use attributes for the customization.

There are also product types for further customization. For instance,

External Murals
Internal Murals
Segway or External leading into an internal mural.

You can use your imagination from there.

Others may jump in with other suggestions. But the big thing to keep in mind is that there are allot of professional programmers in here that can really customize your cart.

Now if you do decide to use Zen Cart, maybe you can integrate the Zen Cart logo into a one of your free murals that you give away for marketing or something. haha.
