having two store with one database

Is this possible? I want to setup two store one for wholesale and one for retail and they will offer same product but different price.

To clarify

  1. Setting up 2 separate storefronts (different looking)
  2. Utilize a single database of products (each store draws from same inventory)
  3. Single admin for both stores.

My goal is to have two different faces of the same business. One would be a retail store while the other is a wholesale store.

The products in the wholesale store would be a subset of the products offered in the retail store.

Customers accessing the wholesale store are required to have a login prior to accessing the site (perhaps they may see products without pricing?).

In my case both storefronts will reside on the same server. They will each have their own unique URL (domain name) and identity. A customer from one store will NOT likely access the other store (two different target audiences).

If anyone has successfully done something like this I would very much appreciate any advice on how it was accomplished (mods, approaches etc.)

In the meantime I will keep tinkering and post any relevant discoveries.

Cheers and thanks!

Re: having two store with one database

Search this site for this as mny have approached this and there is more than one way to do this....probably not as you initially thought but possible...

Remember that with one DB that the settings/prices are all contained in this single DB and the store files only draw on this info

Re: having two store with one database

I thought that question looked familiar :smartalec:

A search returned this recent, related thread:

Good luck!

Re: having two store with one database

By using the dual pricing mod in the Pricing Tools section of the download area of this forum, you can have wholesale and retail prices, and the ability to control which customers are which.
If you really want to have 2 stores running, the multisite module is here:
