PayPal Item is not enough information

ZEN CART - Version 1.3.7
PAYPAL - Screen Information
WEB OS - Windows IIS 6.0

PROBLEM:
When the client adds an item to the shopping cart it includes 2 attributes. These attributes are carried properly by ZEN CART.
However, when the client is presented the PayPal screen, PayPal just calls it an item #1.

I have put the entire sequence on a web page, so that you all could look at it and try to determine a fix for this, please.

It is in a table, with thumbnail links to jpgs of the issue.

Here is the link http://imagesbydavido.com/gallery_web/support/paypalhelp.html

Thank you,
jund

Re: PayPal Item is not enough information

Merlin,

Thank you for your prompt reply. I agree this is working correctly - however, last year (before I found ZEN CART) I created my own cart function with an approved PayPal script. The script passed the database information along to PayPal and one could see the actual purchase information.

The ZEN CART database contains this information - living proof is what the client sees in their emails and in their account. Is there some way I can pass that same database information to PayPal via the ZEN CART PayPal module?

Respectfully,
jund

Merlinpa,

A humorous timewasting question... have you seen what is on the dark side of the moon?

It is a huge sign that says, "This side intentionally blank." (smile)

Re: PayPal Item is not enough information

The Express Checkout module sends line-item details fine.
The IPN module does not.

Give Express Checkout a whirl -- you'll like the detailed receipts.

Re: PayPal Item is not enough information

Dr. Byte,

I must have something really screwed up. I uninstalled IPN and installed PayPal Express. All it gives me is a total with no details. The PayPal display is new too. They have this light blue box directly below the logo/banner at the top... and all it has is a total price of the item. It says nothing about shipping or item# or anything else.

Re: PayPal Item is not enough information

  1. What module do you now have active?

  2. What happens if you change your Page Style to "PayPal" instead of "Primary" in your Zen Cart admin settings for your PayPal module?

  3. What is your site URL where this can be seen in action?

  4. If there is only a display problem on the PayPal side, you may need to talk to their tech support about it. If switching page-styles (#1 above) changes it, then maybe something's amuck with your custom style.

Re: PayPal Item is not enough information

1. What module do you now have active?
Both IPN and Express

2. What happens if you change your Page Style to "PayPal" instead of "Primary" in your Zen Cart admin settings for your PayPal module?
It places my email address at the top. I believe this is correct.
I updated my own and it worked fine after that.
However, the detail is lacking for EXPRESS - and a click down (no better words for what it does) provides more or less detail when clicked in the IPN mode.

I went back in and updated both modules again, and changed the text on the selection page to better define which PayPal service they want to use.

*Payment Method
*
Please select a payment method for this order.

  • Checkout with PayPal IPN (Instant Payment Notification)

Checkout with PayPal Express *

*QUESTION: Is there any way to use the same PayPal image that you use initially? The orange one?
*

3. What is your site URL where this can be seen in action?

4. If there is only a display problem on the PayPal side, you may need to talk to their tech support about it. If switching page-styles (#1 above) changes it, then maybe something's amuck with your custom style.
Please refer to other answers above. Of course, I agree with you... I changed styles to see what would happen - it failed the same way until I updated the profile at PayPal.

Dr. Byte - thank you for taking the time to look at the store.

Respectfully,
jund

Thanks for confirming that updating your custom page-style inside your PayPal account resolved your display problem.
