PayPal Express and Uncleared Payments - sandbox question

Hello again...

A question about 'Uncleared' payment status' in PayPal. When I first started developing my site I decided to use the PayPal IPN and when I tested the payments the status was always set to 'Completed' immediatly after the transaction took place. Unfortunately, I've been forced to switch to Express Checkout since I need the detailed information of each order. What I've noticed now is that all the payments have a status of 'Uncleared'.

Can someone explain to me why IPN transactions are immediately 'Completed' and Express are set to 'Uncleared'? (NOTE: This is all done in the Sandbox)

Maybe I have something setup wrong in my configuration?

Thanks for the help.

Re: PayPal Express and Uncleared Payments - sandbox question

What are all the settings in your PayPal Express Checkout module in Zen Cart ?

When you say "Uncleared", where are you seeing that ?

I am seeing the 'Uncleared' label under the Status column on the 'Account Overview' page on PayPal."Uncleared" suggests that the payment is an echeck. If you were to fund your payments by CC instead of echeck, you wouldn't have the "Uncleared" status.

In the sandbox, you can go to your customer account and click on details for that payment, and click the "Clear this transaction" link at the bottom of the screen, or the "Deny" link if you so prefer.

In the production side, 3-5 days will elapse before PP receives funds from the bank in order to auto-clear the pending echeck transaction.

Is an eCheck the equivalent of having PayPal pull funds from your verified bank? If so, would I be correct in assuming that if I had a balance in my PayPal account and made a payment that way it wouldn't have the 'Uncleared' status?
