How Do You Use Attributes Quantity Price Discounts Field?

This forum has become so unwieldy and it would sure help if people would name their posts with a specific issue instead of "Help with Attributes". Yikes!

I have spent several hours of valuable time searching and I just can't find it:

Can someone please tell me plain and simple, how do you use the Attributes Qty Price Discount Field?

What is the syntax? (Ajeh, beloved Zen Superstar, maybe in 1.4 you can add a parenthesis below the text and above the box that shows the syntax?)

I have a single product and price is based on quantity.

1-4 $35 ea
5-9 $25 ea
10-19 $20 ea
20-49 $12.50 ea
50-99 $7.50 ea
100+ $5.00 ea

Thank you! Thank you! in advance!!!

Try this .
4:35,9:25,19:20,49:12.50,99:7.50,1000:5.00

Paste it into your "Attributes Qty Price Discount:" box for the product attribute you wish to "discount by quantity".

If you are doing "Quantity Discounts (not directly related to a single product 'attribute')", follow the same concept as above, except do the following:

  1. From within the Admin click on Catalog > Attributes Controller.

  2. Find the product for which you want to offer a quantity discount for and once selected, click on the "Display" button

  3. Now, the product will be selected. Click on the "Price Manager" button near the top of the page

  4. Scroll all the way to the bottom of that page and find the section that says "Preview Only ... Current Price Status ... Preview Only". Click on the "Edit" button.

  5. Scroll to the bottom of the next screen, and find the area that says "Add 5 Blank Qty Discounts:" and has a "add blank discounts" button under it. (bottom left). Click the button. (If you need more qty discount options, click the button again until you have the required number. Each time you click, 5 more option spaces will be added). As a side note, and i your specific case, you will need to click the button TWO times in order to get enough options to fulfill your "6 qty discount levels" needed. (you'll end up with 10 boxes, just fill in the 6 you need and leave the remaining 4 blank).

  6. That will bring up a section that allows you to set your prices and qty discounts accordingly. Set them and be sure to click the "Update" button to save. Viola, ready to go! If there are extra "option boxes", just leave them blank. After you click "Update" they will "disappear".

Make sense?

Re: How Do You Use Attributes Quantity Price Discounts Field?

Hi,

maybe you can help me too.

My approach for recalculating the full price of my product when attributes are included was a little different.
Actually I wanted to have a basic price for my product including a quantity discount based on percentage values and when the attribute(s) are added, the prices for the attributes would be discounted in the same manner, following the percentage of the basic price according to the quantity discount of the basic price.

In the "Catalog -> Attributes Controller" menu after selecting the product, on the very end of the window you can find coloured boxes for the "Attributes Flags". One of the options says "Apply Discounts Used by Product Special/Sale:"

But using this option seems not to have any affect on the attributes price at all.

I hoped it might be able to use this option to calculate the attributes prices automatically without the need of doing it manually for each product. This would help a lot to avoid database maintenance especially when several attributes are available for the products which can add up.

Is my approach incorrect or may this option not yet be completely integrated?

I hope you can provide a positive answer since I am looking for a solution for exactly this kind of problem quite a while now.

In OsCommerce the contribution "Discount Plus" would do this, but I couldn't get it to work with "Group Pricing" contributions. Now I found Zen Cart and hoped I could get it working here.

Thanks for any hopefully positive answer in advance,
Thomas

Yes, the "Attributes Flags" section you referred to only works with Product "Specials / Sales" related discounts. Have you tried adding the line referenced in my previous post to the actual ATTRIBUTE (discount by attribute as well as "product base")? Maybe alter it to work as a percentage? e.g. 4:10%,19:20% etc..?

Would that do the trick?

Re: How Do You Use Attributes Quantity Price Discounts Field?

I have a product that if they order 6 + they get a discount. So I set up the discount in the attributes controller and it shows up on my website however when you check out the discount is not given? I have it set to mixed attributes so that they can mix colors of the diapers. Any idea???

Thanks

Re: How Do You Use Attributes Quantity Price Discounts Field?

Hi,

yes I did add discounts to the row. But when using percentages the discounts are used as absolute values. For example when setting up 10% for 10 pcs for the attribute is doesn't calculate 10%, it calculates 10 in the default currency (either + or - depending on what it was setup to do).

Now I found a wiki for the Zen-Cart and following description for setting up discounts. Below this I continued ....

** Quantity Discounts **

Quantity discounts (Attributes Qty Price Discount) are useful when the entire group of products being ordered has a different price if a certain number of them are ordered. Note: The price amount specified for a given number of items will be applied to the entire group of items--The price does not get applied to items in steps.
Syntax:
1:11,3:10.00,6:9.00,9:8.00,12:7.00,15:6.00, 45:5.00
Color Red QTY 1 2-3 4-6 7-9 10-12 13-15 16+ PRICE $11.00 $10.00 $9.00 $8.00 $7.00 $6.00 $5.00 As you can see, the number you enter is the maximum limit of the discount, and the price applied to anything below the number associated with it.
Onetime Quantity discounts (Onetime Attributes Qty Price Discount) allow specific amounts to be applied to quantity discounts. Example: 400:5 will apply a onetime charge of $5 to an order with any number of items less than 400.

Negative numbers work for in these entries as well, making them quantity discounts or quantity charges. This is useful if you define a base price and would like to allow the user to have the discount off the base price.

[edit]
** Attribute Flags (the coloured boxes) **

These are used to help distinquish other features of the attribute such as:- Use for display only - attribute cannot be selected and added to cart. Good for things like "Select from Below" to force the customer to make their own choice and not just hit Add to Cart and get a pink ball instead of a blue ball- Attribute is Free when product is Free - the attribute will be free if the product is free otherwise prices you've set will apply- Default Attribute - sets the attribut as default so it is already selected- Apply Discounts - used by Product Sale/Special -this will apply the same type of discount that the product is getting from the products price vs the special or sale price- Include in Base Price - when products are priced by attributes if this setting is selected then the lowest priced attributes will all be added to the base price of the product and displayed to the customer.- Attribute Required for TEXT - means the customer must fill in this field before adding it to the cart__________________________________________________________

Please note, the discount does work, my problem is that it seems to be necessary to calculate seperately the discount values for each attribute associated to a base product. But I thought I could avoid this additional work and it would also work as described in the section as described below:
"Attribute Flags (the coloured boxes)" -> "Apply Discounts - used by Product Sale/Special -this will apply the same type of discount that the product is getting from the products price vs the special or sale price"

I setup several discounts for my products to work with percentage values. If I understand this option correctly, then the attributes which are setup to use this option and associated to the base product should also use the same discounts as setup for the base product.

If I am correct, why can't I get this to work? Or did I misunderstand something here? Do I have to setup something else too for it to work correctly?

I would really appreciate some information on this issue even if a "php code freek" just can tell me "its a bug - it doesn't work" for what reason ever. But then I would know that I don't need to waiste time on this any longer. But it would be such a helpful and useful feature in my opinion that I am really eager to find the solution. And why else is it described in the wiki?

thx,
Thomas

Re: How Do You Use Attributes Quantity Price Discounts Field?

Have you tried the "Quantity Discounts" mod (rather than using the one that comes built into Zen)? This might make it a bit easier on you. Here is the link:

Yes, I already tried it and discontinued. It only allows fixed percentage rates for all products. But I need various percentage rates. For that reason the function explained in the Attributes Controller seemed to me to be the best.

Re: How Do You Use Attributes Quantity Price Discounts Field?

Okay, to take this one question further....if I have multiple products that I want to price like this, do I have to enter the prices one product by one product or is there somewhere I can enter the prices for all? Thanks again!

Re: How Do You Use Attributes Quantity Price Discounts Field?

If you're using the ratios in the attributes box, you can copy attributes to other products in the Attributes controller so you don't have to enter it over and over in each product...

And for the example above I ended up using the Qty Discount controller in the Products Price Manager and I had to enter it for each product. I didn't find any way to copy them to other products and still don't see a way... maybe someone can shed some light on whether it can be done or not.

I've the same problem. I've the wholesaler mod installed, and the percentage discount would better for me, but when I try to add a percentage discount, it take the value as integer.
Solutions?

Re: How Do You Use Attributes Quantity Price Discounts Field?

Hey everyone, I've been trying to get the price by quantity feature to take into account the entire product as a whole, not just individual attributes. Here is my current setup:

Price guide on quanties:
order 1-19 @ £2.00 each
order 20-49 @ £1.90 each
order 50+ @ £1.80 each

But the price only applies to the specified range per attribute, not the total quantity of this product. i.e.

I order 19 Green products and I get charged 2.00 each. But when I add 19 more Blue products I get charged 1.90 each (but only for the Blue). Shouldn't the Green be only 1.90 as well, since they are both the same product, or am I missing a setting? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,

JW
