xampp download - PLEASE HELP!

Dammitt I've been struggling with this for weeks.

I've taken over responsibility for a zen-cart site on a remote server.
I've got the book. Lovely.

I install xampp on my local machine, using the same db name and prefix as the romote one. I install a zen-cart store on my local machine. Sweet.

I download from the remote site using phpadmin, as per the wiki.
DUMP my old db in the local machine, and sql in the remote dump.

BUT

I end up with a kind of partial download. No graphics, from the remote site, some products, but the site layout is just the same as the original.

I've got much further than this before, but I've no idea what I'm doing wrong.

Please, has anybofy got any ideas? I'm really not stupid, honest.

Ta.

Re: xampp download - PLEASE HELP!

What do you mean by Xampp is down.

I've read your explination and you say what you did, but you don't really tell us the results.

Unless I'm' missing something.

Re: xampp download - PLEASE HELP!

Can you verify that the graphics are in public_html/images folder?

Is the home directory correct in the cofiguration.php file?

As we can't see what's happening on your local site you will need to be a lot more specific. To which graphics are you referring? Product images, template images or buttons? What do the products that aren't appearing have in common that makes then different from those that are?

Re: xampp download - PLEASE HELP!

OK. Thanks for the initial feedback.

This https://www.aswab.co.uk/zen1.jpg is the site on my pc,
and the original is here https://www.aswab.co.uk/zen2.jpg

The graphics I mention are the book pictures at the bottom and left hand side.
Also, the headings are basically the original ones, but there is text data all over the page from the downloaded one. And the main header has defaulted to the original.

The images were in the public_html/images folder. I've since downloaded it. Is there anything else I need to download?

Thanks for all this, guys. I'm tearing my hair out, here.

Re: xampp download - PLEASE HELP!

The images in the public_html/images folder that you downloaded need to be put in your local site's images folder for Zen Cart to be able to find and use them.

It looks to me as though you haven't downloaded the original site's template files. The original designer appears to have made very few changes to the default classic template but has made rather textual changes to the languages files. Unfortunately he or she didn't construct their own template and simply changed the files in the various classic directories, so all the changes are at risk of being over-written when the site is next upgraded. I would recommend consulting the FAQ entry on creating your own template.

In the meantime you need to look for the includes/templates/classic folder and also all folders in the includes/languages folder tree that are called classic (there will be several of them) and putting them in the same locations on your local PC. You'll want to rename them once you've familiarised with creating your own template.

Finally, one of the warning messages that you're getting indicates that the database that you downloaded was no for the latest version of Zen Cart, which is what you are probably running on your local machine. So this needs to be upgraded by running the zc_install script and taking care to upgrade the database and not reinstall Zen Cart.

This porbably sounds like a huge amount to do. It's not really, but there is a lot of learning to be done to get to this point. Once you've been around Zen Cart a bit, this stuff becomes 2nd nature. So don't get discouraged and pop back here when (more likely than if) you have further questions about this process.

Good luck.
