Understanding the "zen" of ssl

I am not sure if the is the place to post this, but hopefully there are a few techie minds wandering past that can help me out.

I am developing a zencart shopping cart (1.3.7) (like for four months.... ) and I am trying to understand the security issues.

Now I know that a ssl certificate encrypts the "processing" or "transmitting" of the credit card information, but does the ssl secure the information that is stored in the ssl files.

An example, if my files are stored in https://www.myshop.com/admin/customers.php does that mean my files can not be seen or fiddled with by hackers unless they figure out how to "log in" to my site?

I have ssl'd my whole admin and I am wondering if that means that my customers information is secure against someone harvesting information.

I would appreciate any help you can give me,
Pat

Re: Understanding the "zen" of ssl

SSL = Secure Sockets Layer - and only encrypts information while it is being sent over the internet. This information is decrypted once you recieve it and it is stored.

See the securing your site in the FAQ's or wiki or it is a sticky in the hacked forum for taking measures to secure your shop
