Aligning the center category display

I know this really doesn't belong on this thread, but I have asked elsewhere and no one can tell me the answer. How do you make your categories on the front page like on this site? I have asked and searched and can not find an answer. Also how do you move the text on the front page down below the pictures, is this all html? I am having a heck of a time with html trying to do this. Thanks for any help.

Oh, and I completely agree with econcepts. I think people looking on the internet for something want to easily get to what they want and frankly before I started building my site 1 month ago I would not have probably known that the flags changed the currency. Therefore even if I wanted that item, if the currency was not US, I would leave and find a site that did. Again, just my 2 cents....I am very new to this! :smile:

Re: Aligning the center category display

Have you turned on the Category display in the Admin> Configuration> Layout Settings?

Yes I tried that but my categories were just in a straight line along the left side. How do I change them into columns like dream of russia?
Thank you for your help. I figured out some html, but I don't like it at all!! I will be so happy to get this fixed!! :clap:

Re: Aligning the center category display

You're missing the CSS that tells them to float:left;

Re: Aligning the center category display

Kim, I have turned them on, and they do come up on my main page, but they are aligned left. I found 2 places in css, 1 that I changed, but there was no change on my front page. Here are the 2 places I found in stylesheet.css;

#logo, .centerBoxContents, .specialsListBoxContents, .categoryListBoxContents, .centerBoxContentsAlsoPurch, .attribImg {
float:center;
}

#categoriesContent {
text-align:left;
padding-left:15px;
}

I tried changing #categoriesContent to float center but it did not work.
Any idea, what's wrong?

Re: Aligning the center category display

There is no such thing as float: center. You can float left or right, but you need to use text-align: center; to get an element centered. (Margin: auto; works for centering a given element in a larger container, too.)

Kim,
Since you are so smart, can you tell me how to move the text below the categories on the main page too? I will be eternally greatful.
Thanks.
