How to move product images to new folder

I want to move my product images to different folders based on the category names. How can I do that without needing to re-upload my images from my local pc hard drive. All my products as of now have their images uploded in the main directory. My store grew more than thought and now it's pretty messy. I'd like to move images in folders based per categories the products belong to. however, I don't want to loose the link, and would like to avoid needing to re-upload the images from the admin gui tool.
