the most basic question of all

Hi Everyone,

Before I order the e-start book (which sounds awesome) and get too heavily involved with the templates, since I have gone threw a successful setup, I need to ask the question:

Can ZC be used strictly as a shopping cart and not a complete website? My goal for this is to create hyperlinks to ZC from a product page I already have in place on our HTML site.

From this question you can probably imagine the level of newbie I am, considering the fact that I make sites from wysiwyg software.

Short answer: Yes.

Long answer: Depending on how you have your current products loaded, this could be ideal, or a bit messy. I personally think that Zen Cart works better as an add-on to an existing site (though I have seen some very awesome sites that are nothing more then Zen Cart). The site that I use Zen Cart on stands alone by itself, and then if customer's want to look through the catalog or purchase products, I have linnks that send them to a Zen Cart directory where they proceed from there. If you have a catalog built on your site already in standard HTML pages, you will need to replicate that catalog in Zen Cart. You can then link directly to the Zen Cart Product pages from your current catalog if you would like. I would imagine that over time as your site grows, you may find yourself migrating to more Zen Cart managed pages and less of your own as the redundancy and maitenence is lessened by letting Zen Cart do what it does best...sell your stuff.
