Categories Dressing

Limelites -

Those two subcategories have subcats, not products directly, so the question is why your code is trying to use the product listing page instead of the subcategory listing page. The specials (What's Hot This July) centerbox is already displaying random products from the sub-subcats.

Hi Glen,

I don't know what happened to it, but it didn't used to show like this. It used to show all products from the sub categories in a random order (20 per page) and acted exactly like the other main categories which have no sub-cats just products.

I know the 'what's hot this July' shows random products from the sub-cats but how would I get it to show all products from the sub categories in a random order (20 per page) and act as though there were no sub cats?

Re: Categories Dressing

Product categories in the product listing do not show randomly, unless you have some mod operating. Likewise, categories with subcats never show product listing pages unless something custom has been done to the code.
I find it hard to imagine any way the categories sidebox could be affecting the page display logic, unless you have added code to modify the category links. Cat Dressing does not touch the link destination code at all, just wraps them for sidebox display.

Hi Glen,

That's why I started by saying I'm a little off topic. I know I had some modifications to the code working previously, but for the life of me I can't remember how I did it. I've searched and searched my previous messages looking for the modifications but can't find them. Was just posting in here in case you're able to point me to the files that could have worked such magic previously?

Re: Categories Dressing

It's also doing it in Womenswear, Menswear and Childrenswear. I've not changed anything on the site in ages, so I have no clue why it's started doing this. It used to show all the products at random from the sub categories, now it's started acting weird for no reason. Any idea what file I might have modified initially?

Re: Categories Dressing

Did post 828 get resolved? where the indent was not aligning with the bullets word?

post....http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpost.php?p=755527&postcount=828

I am having that issue as well, where my categorie takes up two lines and the 2nd line is not indented like the first line.

Re: Categories Dressing

I have another problem. I sure this has already been solved, I couldn't find it searching.

I put in a new sub category, when I get to the category it basically acts like its a top level category, it starts the bread crumb over again, and the categories all fold up on the left.

Thank You in advance for your help!

Re: Categories Dressing

So I fixed my adding categories problem. I added it straight into a subcategory, which then followed the bread crumb.

Before I had added it as a top category then moved it to a subcategory and thats why it wasn't acting like a sub.

Re: Categories Dressing

Been searching through the post and can't seem to find a solution to this issue. In Firefox, the categories show up fine, but in IE, the categories and subcategories aren't visible until I hover over them, and sometimes not visible until I actually click on them. You can see my test site here:

http://www.sarasotafarms.org/shop

Please let me know if anyone has any suggestions as how to fix this

Re: Categories Dressing

Is there a way to remove the bullet for the 2nd level category, but not the 3rd level?

You want the subcats of the current top cat all showing at once, so you will need to install the Uncollapsed Categories Tree mod, which works with Categories Dressing.

Where can I get the "Uncollapsed Categories Tree" mod? I couldn't find it.. Thanks.

It's in the categories dressing module. Look at the ch_category folder that came with the module.

Re: Categories Dressing

Thank you.

Now I have another question: I have previously installed categories Dressing v2.6. Now the latest is 2.7.3 which includes the "Uncollapsed Categories Tree" mod. How do I upgrade?

Re: Categories Dressing

Hi, first of all THANK YOU for this mod, it's great!

I have a few questions about it, and I think I'll approach them one at a time. :smile:

#1 - Is there any way to get a line break between each of the list items? The rest of my side menu items have it, so I'd like them all to look the same. ???

Thank you ahead of time for your answer. :cool:

Re: Categories Dressing

Actually, if you want a line break between items, just applying
display: list-item;
to the stock categories in your stylesheet will do that. Removing that <br /> was one of the first code modifications for Categories Dressing.

The standard sideboxes with <li> organization do not have <br /> tags in their coding; what are you using that does give breaks there?

Re: Categories Dressing

To upgrade from v2.6 to v2.7.3, you can replace the tpl_categories.php and categories_dressing_functions.php files with the new versions. If you keep your original categories_dressing_defines.php, all of your customizations will carry over.

The ch_categories version will need its own installation, and is separate from the regular version. You can actually enable both the standard sidebox and the ch_categories sidebox, and both will display in the locations you specify.

The indent can largely be addressed by changing list-style from "inside" to "outside". I haven't been able to completely eliminate the difference while keeping the basic structure.

Re: Categories Dressing

smoke133 -

Subcategory levels are controlled by the number of "ul" elements in the selector.
Top cats are (for example) #categories ul {}
First subcats are #categories ul ul {}
Sub-subcats are #categories ul ul ul {}
etc.

This principle can be applied and extended as desired.

Re: Categories Dressing

When I couldn't find an answer on how to get the line breaks in, I played around with the code for a couple of hours and ended up putting in custom top/bottom padding for the items. Then it took me even longer to get it to look the same in both browsers.

Now the next thing on my agenda is getting the arrows to line up right, because once I put the padding in, the arrows shifted up to the top, instead of the middle.

I've been told to try putting in the arrows as a background image instead, but after playing with that code for a couple of hours, I can't get the arrows to show up at all once I take the bullet out, like I was advised to do. :smile:

Does anyone have more advice on how I might handle the arrow (icon) issue?

My url is: http://tinyurl.com/m2enrl

Thanks!

PS. I found that in editing some of the CSS, I had conflicting stylesheets (3 total) that I've tried to condense down to one. So... my categories_dressing stylesheet now looks a little different than it did before.
