How do I remove the colored bar at the top?

I'd like to remove the colored bar at the top of the page;
Have my logo banner butt up to the top of the page;
And move the "home" and "Logo" links to a sidebox so they won't interfere with my logo. (Even to the far right might be okay.)

Is that possible? If so, can anyone tell me how to do it?

Thanks,
Caat

Re: How do I remove the colored bar at the top?

Quite possible. Keep in mind that the header navbar also displays the "my account", "shopping cart" and "checkout" links when appropriate, and "search" when activated in admin.

Depending on exactly how and where you want the links to display in the sidebar, you can edit /includes/templates/your_template/common/tpl_header.php to copy the code block beginning with <!--bof navigation display--> and ending with <!--eof navigation display--> to another file, adjust it for vertical display (mostly by adding <br /> tags between the items), and once it is working correctly delete it from tpl_header.php.

You might move the code to column_left.php or column_right.php, or to one of the regular sideboxes, or if you want it in a sidebox all to itself you can download the "blank sidebox" mod to hold it.

The logo will then automatically move to the top.

Another thought - would it work for the header nav to be below the logo (horizontal)? That would be a trivially easy edit, if it would look right for your layout.

Oh, yes! That would work, and if it's easier than what you described, I'm all for it! Especially since those other links show up there. Can I move it to, right below the header and above the breadcrumb? That's where the categories were before I moved them to the left. How would I do that?

Here's my site: http://spiritcaat.com/zenshopping/

If I can't move it there, I can try it right below the header. It might work. I'd rather at least try than jump into what you explained for the other. I am a real novice at this. The fact that I've gotten this far with customizing it is rather amazing. :wink:

Thanks!

Similar to the explanation above, edit /includes/templates/your_template/common/tpl_header.php, and move the code block beginning with <!--bof navigation display--> and ending with <!--eof navigation display--> to just below <!--eof branding display-->.

That's it.

It works! I don't like it, but it works.:blush: So one more question. Is there a way to move the links so that they show up on the right rather than the left? I know a search box used to be there, so maybe it's not possible.

If not, maybe I'll leave it as is. Or, I was going to get the blank box module, anyway, for my google ads. Maybe I'll come back to it then.

Thank you so much. This really helps. Sometimes you just need to see the change to realize you don't want it. :wink:

Best,

Re: How do I remove the colored bar at the top?

Find this section in tpl_header.php ```php

<!--bof-navigation display--> <div id="navMainWrapper"> <div id="navMain"> <ul class="back"> ``` and change class="back" to class="forward".

See my site for an example of the header nav code placed in the left sidebar. I just put the code in column_left.php, since I didn't want a box with header & title for it.

I just put the code in column_left.php, since I didn't want a box with header & title for it. Ooohhh. That works! That works! And I like it much better. Thank you, Glenn! I like it in the left sidebar, as well. Your page looks good like that. But now that I saw it without the bar, I'm not sure I wouldn't have to revamp my logo to make it look right without it.

I might want to eventually keep the bar there and move the links to the left column, but I just added something to my cart and see all the other links there, and this works for me right now. I think I like it. Thank you so much.

I'm sure I'll have plenty more questions on my technological quest, but you have been a huge help. Thank you so much.
