Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

Thanks for whoever it was that mentioned the version 1.10.3. I had just uploaded the 1.10.2 to contributions.

What he has now done is remove the sanitizer completely and says "make sure your store uses UTF-8 and properly encoded characters"

So this means that some of my customers will not be using this version for the moment. Their products upload with 1.10.2 but not with 1.10.3. We are talking over 2000 products and fixing all those descriptions is not feasible at this time.

This is not the first time he's played with this so I do not know what it means for the feeds come the 22.

All I know is that asking websites to have everything exactly right from the get go is just not what most of my customers do. So therefore the sanitizer is vital.

He also says he added "improved support for product variants"

so if that's your concern, go for it. I may end up uploading a zen cart version 1.10.2b without the sanitizer changes. Let me know your preferences please.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

I seem to have an overlapping install and would like to start fresh. Can you tell me all the files and database tables or rows I should kill to wipe out both 1.8.2 and the current 1.10.x versions?

Is there any chance you could write the changes I posted into version 1.10.2b so "Google Product Type" can be done on a per product basis. If you need a a copy of the old ASA mod to take the coding from I now have this and can send to you.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

I be glad to look at it but there's definitely no promises. There might be a better way of doing this based on existing working mods. If my work load allows, I'll spend some time with it. Just delia at deliawilson.com

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

Hi, I am using 1.39d.( I am using attributes of products)

I wonder whether I MUST do the following 2 steps?

1:If using attributes to offer variations of your products, install Stock by Attributes
2:Convert your Zen Cart files and database to accept UTF-8 characters by following our UTF-8 conversion tutorial.

It seems these 2 steps offer extra functions, they may be useful, but they are not necessary. Am I right?

Thanks a lot

First off, you have to upgrade your zen cart version - bad problems exist on any 1.3.9 version before h

Where are you finding those instructions? Definitely do not install stock by attributes that exists on zencart.com. Jeff is working on a new one that will be integrated with this.

Not sure about the UTF-8 conversion.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

Hi Delia

Smack me over the knuckles if this is presumptious... but any ETA on the SBA issue for GoogleBase Feeder? I know Jeff is a very busy chap, so I don't want to come across as putting on any pressure.

Also, the issue relating to read-only attributes... Are you managing to address this.

And then there's google's requirements for SIZE and COLOUR...

OK... enough... I know you guys are doing all you can.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

We, as Zen Cart users, have it pretty damned good. I have a client who uses a commercial cart for which she paid some pretty good money. When we contacted the company that developed the software about an update to the Google feed, they called it a "custom" job and wanted $800. Never mind the fact that they could code it once and sell it to their entire installed base. I ended up contracting out her update to a coder who did it for $200.

I know nothing more than I've already posted. I'm in the process at looking at a paid solution (monthly fee) that I may start recommending. This whole thing with the free mods for this is making me very anxious.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

I asked a question a couple of days ago that didn't get a reply. Can someone please tell me all the files and database entries I should strip to make sure I get a fresh install?

most likely it's the same files in the most recent version but the only way to be sure is to get the package of the version you have installed and check.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread [OLD]

I installed http://www.numinix.com/google-merchant-center-feeder two days ago.

I am getting this error from Google:
XML formatting error - Error

Our system encountered an error when processing your data feed. Learn more.
Examples:
Line Nr. Column Nr.
25 17
XML formatting error - Error

Your feed contains a character that is not permitted in UTF-8 encoding.
Examples:
Line Nr.
25

I open the XML file with notepad++ go to the line and column number this is what I find:

Micro TalkΠGMRS/FRS 2-Way Radios with 16-Mile Range <---- Copy paste from notepad but within notepad it actually looks like this:Attachment #9682

On the website this is what it looks like:

Micro Talk® GMRS/FRS 2-Way Radios with 16-Mile Range

So could this be the issue: ® and any help on how I can fix it.

Will installing The UTF-8 Mods for databases help wit this issue?

Thank you all so much I've read and read everywhere:frusty:

That's a really good question that I don't have the answer to and would like to know.

However, if you use the last version, 1.10.2, instead of 1.10.3, you might find the problem goes away.

1.10.2 has a sanitizer in it that makes some of those changes for you. He removed it in his most recent version - why I don't know.

I don't know if this will help. I recently encountered some invalid characters in descriptions that broke an rss feed. The characters couldn't be seen in the product listing form but could be seen on the front end. In the product listing form, plain text mode, I copied the description and pasted it right back into place, saved and the invalid characters were gone. This got the rss feed working again.

Delia I think we found our answer. I went to version 1.10.2 and the feed does load.

Still wondering if Adding these mods would have helped.

I didn't, and had no issues with the feed on the two sites where I installed it. But, I used 1.10.2, not .3. I think the removal of the sanitizer in .3 is going to fubar a lot of feeds.

You are right 1.10.3 is messing things up. how many products were you able to generate feed for?

Are there limitations on this mod it only seems to work approximately for 2000 products or less any thing above that

Leaving Max products: blank
generates this error code:

That particular error is almost always a permissions issue.
