EZpages or new pages with custom headers and css

Hi,

I have a few sections on my site where I would like to change the look and feel yet stick with ZC's user registration and admin system. using EZ pages, I only get halfway as the banner and look remains the same. I have looked through the forum and the help and the wiki and still can't figure out how to do this. i am happy to program php or html and css. So, how do I

get a different header at the top and maybe different footer
assign a different look to this section only
assign specific banners to this section?

Thanks for any pointers, I am a bit stick right now
