Problem with image display on my site.

I'm not sure where this should go, so I'm going to try here and see what happens...

I've just uploaded an updated site (went from 1.2.3 to latest due to the host updating MySQL on me).

This entailed pretty much a total re-write of the site, the update just didn't play nicely.

I now have a problem though. I don't seem to be able to display most of the images I have on my site.

The site is https://www.memorabiliamagic.com.au and if you select a category or a product you will see some (very few) images in the categories (try cycling for example) but none in the details.

The images exist, all the one size, in the images directory (there are hundreds of them).

Can someone please give me a hand with this? The site has been down for 2 weeks now and my client is getting a bit stropy about me and ZenCart (should be stropy with the hoster if you ask me.. but there you go).

Thanks so much.

Peter Nunn.

Re: Problem with image display on my site.

What directory is this image located in?
afl_team_century_1002.jpg

What are the permissions on the directory?

If you delete and reload the file manually does it appear?

Some of your files are jpg and others jpeg ... is this correct?

Re: Problem with image display on my site.

Hi Linda,

thanks for the response.

The images are all in the images directory (Some have large, medium and small, but only a handful. I didn't discover this until a large number were already uploaded).

The folder and file permissions are 644, the images should all be jpg (I think, some of the early ones might have originally been jpeg, but there all jpg now.

When I re-add an image (for example AFL->Brownlow) the image is shown in the preview, but still nothing in the detail page.

I'm really at a loss here. This all used to work under 1.2.3.

Another thing I've just noticed is that the description doesn't show up in the detail page either. Don't know if that points to anything.

Any other ideas? I can give someone access to the site if that helps I guess.

Ta.

Peter.

Re: Problem with image display on my site.

Most of your pages will not load for me ...

Can you try switching to the Classic Template and see if things work?

Re: Problem with image display on my site.

OK,

I've switched to classic (although the text is all wrong now) and still have the same problems.

I can't leave it like this for too long.

This is really causing me some problems.

Thanks.

Peter.

Re: Problem with image display on my site.

Something is wrong with your files or with your file permissions ...

I cannot get pages to open that should ...

Many images referrenced cannot be pulled directly via the browser ...

Switch back if you like ...

Then delete that image:
/images/afl_team_century_1002.jpg

from the server and reload it via FTP ... make sure as a binary file ...

Re: Problem with image display on my site.

OK, Linda thankyou so much.. might be onto something here.

Looks like a large number of the images didn't upload... sigh.. so I'm in the process of loading them all again with binary mode.

I'll see what happens then... but I still don't think the details page is right yet.

Thankyou so very very much for the help so far.

Re: Problem with image display on my site.

Right...

as the images are loading I'm getting more of the thumbnail images as I should (for example olympics->100mt relay) but still nothing in the details pages.

Is it an override problem or something like that?

Ta again...

Peter.

Re: Problem with image display on my site.

Your product_info page is not loading ...

Something there is damaged or broken in some manner to prevent this from loading ...

Either the template or one or more of the core files is missing damaged or corrupt ... and the full page cannot load ...

Without actually looking at your site from FTP, phpMyAdmin and determining the exact problem I cannot tell what you have broken at this point ...

It appears to be more than an image issue and more of a issue with the files or permissions of the files ...

Re: Problem with image display on my site.

OK... thanks Linda... I'll have to spend some time on both my local copy of the site and the uploaded one and see what I can find.

My kingdom for a shell... sigh.. this is very difficult without being able to put up a tar ball and unload it that way...

I'll keep looking and let you know what I find out.

Peter.

I would be interested to see what the file permissions are through out the whole directory tree, because if they are set this way then there is a problem.....

Re: Problem with image display on my site.

OK... has to be a problem with my customization...

I've just installed 1.3.7 on my test box afresh with the demo db in it and it all worked.. so I then removed the data from the database, re-installed without data, and saved and reloaded my database from the upgraded test site, and guess what.. with the classic view it all displays correctly... now.. I have to work out why it breaks with my customizations.

Tomorrow I'm afraid... had enough of this for one day.

Thanks everyone for your help today.. much appreciated.

Peter.

Re: Problem with image display on my site.

OK..... the site is now up and running again...

Here's roughly what I did to get it working... painful.. but..

Setup another copy of the new software on my test server and installed the demo data.

Once that was working, blew away the database and uploaded my data into the database instead... all continued to work.

Added in my template and managed to get it working with that without too many hassles (turned out some of the images were missing, so sorted that).

Then started adding my customisations back in... one by one, using a diff tool to look at the files and directories that were different from the fresh install to the partially working one.

Found that I had something (still not sure what) wrong with the overide for the details page (pretty obvious I guess from the symptoms) but turns out that I can live with the default anyway (probably better than mine)... Think it is to do with moving from 1.2.3 to 1.3 that's caused the problem.

Added the extra code to make a page_1 and populate it... Broke the whole thing. Couldn't even see the home page... No idea why. Simply added the define it files.php and that is it ... boom. Exactly the same format for page_2 etc.. but no show.. so gave up on that for the moment.

Went to upload the site again and found ...

a) the useless hosting company had given me more space in one part of there system and hadn't rolled it over to the file manager so ran out of room with the images... took ages to convince them that it was actually their fault.. finally got onto someone who had half a clue and they fixed that.. (hence some of the earlier image problems).

b) discovered that I had accidently uploaded a version with page_1 enabled.. and bugger me if it didn't work on the hosting site (still doesn't on my test box).

Basically, back up again, customer mostly happy (still got some changes to make, but should be OK.. might have to ask some more..).

Thanks to everone who helped out here.. hope when my freshly ordered book turns up, some of these questions might already be answered.

Thanks again.

Peter.
