User submitted media as part of sales process

Hi,

I run a design and print shop, and one of the services we offer is photographs/illustrations/etc on canvas.

I would like to setup a website using Zen Cart that offers the end user the ability to purchase canvases online, with the option to select either a stock photograph or illustration from a library of images, or an image they supply themselves (Which is likely to be the major selling product). However I am a little unsure if Zen Cart is the solution I need, or whether I need to do something more bespoke.

My questions are...

1. Does Zen Cart allow the end user to purchase a product and then make changes to that product (In my case, purchase a canvas and then apply artistic effects to it such as color hostpots, blur effects, etc).

2. Does Zen cart offer the ability to let the customer upload their image as part of the sales process?

If someone could answer these questions for me I would be extremely grateful.

1. Yes, if what you are asking for is to select from a list or lists of effects (they can have example images accompanying the list). Zen Cart does not include interactive graphic editing - that is a totally separate function.

2. Yes. This is a stock function, though I don't use downloads or uploads myself so can't tell you much more.

Thankyou for your informative answer. Would there be any direct documentation about these features anywhere? I've checked the Wiki and FAQ but nothing points to anything about a customer upload facility.

I checked quickly myself and didn't see anything to point you to... I know people use the feature.

A look in The Book (e-Start Your Web Store...) describes how to use attributes for this.
In Catalog > Option Name Manager, select option type File.
To use this properly, in Configuration > Maximum Values, set
Maximum File Upload Size
and
Allowed Filename Extensions for uploading
as desired.

The files will be uploaded into your /images/uploads/ directory, and their filenames will be changed to numbers. Presumably they are linked with the order.
