ARGH! My admin folder is gone!

I downloaded the Newsletter Subscribe Mod and replaced my entire admin folder on my Zencart with THEIR folder! And now my whole Admin folder is gone!

I backed up using phpMyadmin but it doesn't seem to work. So I downloaded a fresh install of zencart and moved the admin folder over, but it says I need to run zc_install. Now I know if I do, I would probably wipe out everything, so I am not going to.

I am using a Mac, so is there a workaround this? Can anyone help me please?

Should I run a clean install and copy the rest over to the files?

Loading the files from the /admin of an add-on should not remove the files from your /admin on the server ... rather it should either overwrite existing or add new files ...

Always be sure to have a backup of both your site and database ...

If you renamed the old /admin and loaded a clean /admin then you are missing the file:
/admin/includes/configure.php

You should find that in your renamed directory ... copy that to the:
/admin/includes/configure.php

and your Admin will run normally instead of thinking you are trying to install ...

That file, configure.php, when missing triggers the installer ... :smile:

What I meant by that was that the whole file (which previously held 20+ files), only has 4 now (as per the release of the mod). I can't recover the old admin folder anywhere.

Is this the end?

Download the complete fileset for your version using the link above. Unzip the files. Upload the complete Admin directory overwriting what you have on your server - NOTE: ONLY the ADMIN folder.

Then try your install of the mod again, uploading the new files and NOT wiping out the whole directory.

I am working on my own server, and now when I go to my MAMP (http://localhost:8888/MAMP/?language=English) front page, it displays:

Error: Could not connect to MySQL server!

This is after I tinkered with a new configure.php from a new admin/includes/configure.php file, and based it against my existing includes/configure.php. Then everything went nuts.

I tried to upload the ADMIN folder only, but it said to run zc_install.

sigh.

Any help would be wonderful.

you will need to manually configure your admin/includes/configure.php

you need to define the domain names and server paths as well as the database

Ok, so I did it -- and what I did, specifically, was to follow the instructions on moving my shop to another server via:

And I had everything back to normal. The fix_cache_key by Dr Byte was a life-saver in my case. And I am too happy, to say the least.

The process works differently on the Mac from a PC.

On the Mac, if you copy a folder from a mod into your shop it will replace the entire folder of the same name in your shop.

You have to manually copy each file from the mod into the corresponding position in your shop - following the folder structure in the mod, of course.

The same process also seems to happen when using FTP clients on the Mac to upload folders to a live server.
