need to set all products to taxable goods

I need to set all my products to taxable goods... nI did thi in the phpmyadmin, it set everything to 1 but it didn't set everything to taxable goods

UPDATE zen_products
SET products_tax_class_id = '1'
WHERE products_tax_class_id = '0'

2 questions:

1. what did I do? if everything is set to 1 is it ok...
2. how do I do what I want to do?

This is handled through the admin and not via the DB directly.

you need to setup a zone or zones and apply the tax rate there.

Normally, if one buys from outside of your area, no tax is levied and there are settings for this in the admin as "based on delivery address", or "based on buyers address" or sililar to this

Define a zone and tax rate - I think by default that Florida is set as a zone and you would need to alter this
