remove monthly specials box from front page

How/where do I remove the monthly specials box from the front page.

I have items on special... but I only want them to display on the specials page. :-)

How to remove the "Specials" link at the top of the page as well? I've been searching for an hour and all I can find re how to remove the "specials" box on the side...but there is also a link at the top of the page in the middle

I've done this, yet my Specials, Featured Products and New Products are all still showing on the home page?

They are set as follows:
Show New Products on Main Page 0
Show Featured Products on Main Page 0
Show Special Products on Main Page 0
Show Upcoming Products on Main Page 0

The only way i can get them to turn off is to set Configuration>Layout>Categories - Always show categories on Main Page to 0.

Is this correct? I want to show the categories, but not the specials, new products or featured products.

Had thought that initially, and they looked the same. However, to be sure, i just compared them with Winmerge and they're identical. To be extra sure, i compared my template with an unaltered download of 1.3.8a afterwards and they're still identical. Am i right in thinking i should compare includes/templates/MYTEMPLATE/templates/tpl_index_default.php?

ive also got this same problem.
All my Index Listings are set = 0
The Specials box doesnt show on the main page, however all categories and sub categories show the specials and featured.

Any idea how i might tackle this one ?

Now that it has been confirmed the "tpl_main_page.php" file is not the problem, care to share where these "proper switches" are that you had mentioned?

Apologies about that, I did compare the tpl_index_default.php page.

I've now compared the tpl_main_page.php and they are different, however, I now have a modified version of Zen-Cart which is likely to affect this page.

Therefore it would be helpful if Kim could let us know what code we are looking for that would be a switch for the 'specials' section. I've had a look through the code and can't find anything that seems to fit the bill (the word specials does not appear in the file anywhere).

I think Kim misspoke - tpl_index_default.php is the file that should do the runtime control of centerboxes for the standard homepage. tpl_index_categories.php is the file that outputs the category listing if you have categories set for the homepage, so that is probably the one to compare. Did you initially purchase a template, or did you do all the customization?

I've just checked the tpl_index_categories.php and it's not in the override folder, which means it's not part of my template. However, to double check, i compared it with a fresh copy and it's identical.

It is originally the simple_zen template with some tweaks by a web-designer.

So apparently somehow the settings you are making in admin are not being seen by the tpl file? Have you tried changing nearby settings and seeing if those make a difference where they ought to?

Cowabunga! Changing the 'Show New Products on Main Page - Category with SubCategories' affects the main page as well as changing in the categories with subcategories as it's supposed to.

It appears as though the main page is being treated as a category with subcategories.

Any idea how this could be happening?
