Categories/Products in admin screen..better way to display?

I'm very new to this..confusing albeit very good program..but I notice when using the Catalog/Products display in the Admin area..it seems very unintuitive and difficult to find your products. Perhaps there is some way to configure this Categories/Products screen so that it shows a tree-like structure with Products listed under their respective Categories..as they should shouldnt they? What if I have 20 categories and 500 products..how do I quickly see which products are under which categories ? I know you can do a search but what if you dont remember the name of the product..? Is there a mod or some configuration I cant find to make this Categories/Products initial screen easier to use and more intuitive?? Thanks for your help!!

Re: Categories/Products in admin screen..better way to display?

I'd think it would be pretty difficult for you customers to find something if you don't know what category it's in.:dontgetit

Perhaps a more intuitive set of categories? I can't imaging the difficulty (much less time consumed) trying to present 500 lines of products for edit. You do also have the drop-down list of categories to at least get there a little quicker.

If products show up in more than one category, you can link them from their master category as well.

I find the search method the quickest AND most accurate method of finding a product to modify. Remember the good folks have given you a search that will find bottle, botanical, and boots all by just entering bo in the search. One of my suppliers uses another cart and you have to know the catalog number or the EXACT title to find it with a search.

Re: Categories/Products in admin screen..better way to display?

Hi..true true..its just a matter of organization..a simple tree-like representation of categories and their products just makes sense..just wishfuol thinking on my part..I'm loving the program more or less tho one can see it could be better organized on the admin side. Things seem to be scattered all over the place..is there a way to just display a listing of ALL products in admin side? Just seems silly you have to click on each category to see what products are in it? (Search is fine as far as it goes...) anyhow, must be just me as I dont see anyone else talking about it on the forum:-)

When in admin, click on Catalog, Categories/Products. When that comes up, look all the way to the right and one line above the first listing. You'll see a red X followed by go to. That drop-down list contains all categories and sub-categories and, IMHO, is a far quicker way to get to what I want and I have over 1200 products. All you need do is click on the area and type the first letter of the category or sub-category and press enter. As the French say VOYEELAH:D

Re: Categories/Products in admin screen..better way to display?

For my site (http://livefromatlanta.net/chyna/) i was given 12000+ images all named with their product model numbers. So i uploaded all the files using Easy Populate, but they are in 1 big category.

The plan was to add all the other info (name, description, price) to featured products month by month (since the company won't send me a spreadsheet with all the info in it).

But when i try to search the Categories/Products i get nothing. Are you telling me the search only works for the Categories and Sub-Category Titles? How can i find a single model number in this huge list without having to scroll through the entire list for each product?
