Enabling Gzip compression, your experience with this

Hi,

I have turned ON the GZIP compression and my webshop seems to react much faster as it did (maybe I am just imagining that lol).


Now I am wondering asking you guys (cause I am not so experienced) what the disadvantages of turning ON the GZIP will or could be.

I am planning to have lots of customers shopping on my webshop, perhaps at the same time….

Before I turned on the GZIP I have got some reactions from investors etc. that the site seems to react a little bit slowly sometimes. I also must admit that I am very happy with my current server.

btw, this is my server up time stats

is this ny good or bad?

GZip will make a considerable difference ...

Proper server configuration of memory for MySQL and php will make even more of a difference ...

Load times vary from server to server ... I have seen some with higher than those still run quite fast and others run much slower with lower times ...

What matters is what your site is actually doing and what your server is configured to handle ...

Being up for 2 hours concerns me ... if that server is always running where you find it constantly being restarted I would be concerned ...

Servers do get restarted from time to time ... but they shouldn't have to be restarted often ...

a good rule of thumb is to look in c-panel ( if you have it ) at the server stats,

then divide the number of cpus into the load, you want to be at 1.0 or less per cpu this is 100% also note that at certain times servers run routine maintenance,

you will experience higher load averages during these times

Can you guys check it out for yourselfs. I have the parse time info below the page.

I am going to sell my products in The Netherlands, and my server is located in Germany. I have a very fast ping when i check it. I dont know where you guys are located and due to your location the ping could be different.

The parse time is sometimes above 1 , but it seems to load fast. The query time is most of the time below 1.

and regarding the server up time, its now: **Server up-time: **13:27:15 up 2:25, 0 users, load average: 2.44, 2.66, 3.56

the two hours issue, maybe it because my server is a cluster server?:flex:

It also seems to load faster with mozila than IE and I have my Gzip on as my server didn't have this option enabled. I have enabled it my self in ZC-cp...
