How to mark up product price?

I am new to Zen Cart and I am trying to set up a product. When I enter product price in admin, that is the price show up on the actual site. I want to enter my cost in admin, then display marked up price on the actual site.

For example:

Enter $100 in admin as my cost

I would like to display $150 on the site as mark up is 50%.

Is this possible to do in Zen Cart?

Should I manually upload products with price into MYSQL database?

Re: How to mark up product price?

There is not a native profit margin/markup feature in Zen Cart.

There is a mod to track profit margin (Products Profit/Margin Calculator + Report), though I don't think it sets the price based on cost.

Re: How to mark up product price?

Thank you gjh42 for reply. I did some research and looks like the mod is no longer supported...

I guess I have to update the price in excel sheet and upload it to mysql database manually.

Maybe I should make new thread for this but what is the best file format to export and import products into mysql database. I see:

CSV
CSV for MS Excel
Microsoft Excel 2000
Microsoft Word 2000
LaTeX
Open Document Spreadsheet
Open Document Text
PDF
SQL
XML

I would like to make change to price so I am thinking excel is best if I can edit price column only, but when I exported CSV format, it put everything in 1 column.

Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

Re: How to mark up product price?

So you have too many products to just enter the retail price in admin for each of them? But you can enter your cost in each of them?

A popular bulk import tool is EasyPopulate. There is a basic free version and a fancier paid version.

Re: How to mark up product price?

Thank you for your help. That looks like I can use although the installation steps are little intimidating.

The reason I am looking for solution to edit price is we change mark up quite often so we do not want to change the price for individual products.

Have you used the fancier paid version? What do you think of it?

Here is link to the files I found:
