Eliminating wrap-arounds

That's weird. I posted a reply to this thread hours ago and now it's gone!

Not sure what you are referring to - forms? The options for the boots are just attributes. Let me know if I have mis-understood your question.

After I made my initial post, I did fiddle some more and got to the point that you saw. It's still not entirely "clean" looking, but it a lot better.

If you look at the same product in IE, the product description is way off to the right. Whereas, in Firefox, it looks just fine.
It may be a matter of a IE CSS hack. Hopefully someone can help out with that please! :frusty:

Thanks for clarification.
I thought that this stuff might be computing a price, according to attribute chosen. That would be a nice topic to investigate.

Will give it a shot. What version of IE are you using to look at it? 6?

Re: Eliminating wrap-arounds

I checked it with Web Developer toolbar in Firefox.
I think that there is something similar for IE, but unsure because I don't use IE to develop.
I do check in it though, as a concession to the masses that still use that.
Yes, there's a big difference in those browsers, checked with IE7.
Nested inside the Div #ProductDescriptionWrapper, input by the mod, there is another one: div #productDescription .productGeneral .
This div is being pushed to the right in IE.
Look for that div in your main and additional stylesheets, when you find it, adjust the margin accordingly.

Although there are a lot of Validation errors, these two should be fixed first.

No such animal as "defer"

…teSeal/alphassl_siteSeal_m.js" defer>

Missing a closing DIV tag somewhere within:

<div id="navColumnOneWrapper" style="width: 160px"><!--// bof: categories //-->

...

<!--// eof: blanksidebox //--> </div></td>

Re: Eliminating wrap-arounds

ckosloff and Robb,

Thanks for your help.

I did adjust the margin ... I knew it was something obvious!

Robb - that alpha seal code - that is their creation, not mine. And any change to the code renders the thing useless. Silly, ain't it!?

I haven't figured out the missing </div> yet.

This missing </div> is causing that div to jut out of the wrapper in IE.
There aren't many options to look around.
Try tpl_product_info_display.php in your custom template first.

Re: Eliminating wrap-arounds

Hello,

I had this working fine for a while, and it still seems to work fine with firefox, but now with ie8.0 the product description is not aligning to the right of the images (and additional images), and the div ends up being below the images. Take a look at... www.wholesale4realtors.com

I'm aware there's a script error having to do with dynamic price updater, and I'm addressing that, but the error was happening prior to this issue happening, so it should be unrelated...

Any idea what is causing this or how to correct the issue?

Thanks,

Brian

...now with ie8.0...
I just installed IE8 in another machine, haven't done much testing with it yet.
Please post a direct URL to a page where you are having the problem, not the home page, and I will take a look.

Re: Eliminating wrap-arounds

So I went through the site with IE8.
Didn't see too many problems, not the one you mention, for that I need a specific URL.
Here are my suggestions: Some images overlap the description, to fix this there a number of options.

  1. Adjust the left margin of the div in the stylesheet included with the mod.
  2. Turn off right column in Admin, that will give the whole site more room and a less cramped look.

Now I have questions for you.
The last attribute: if Yes, attach file...Browse.
How did you do that?
Also, the text area for Information for the front.
I don't use those attributes and am curious as to how they are done.

Thanks for getting back to me... Well, I'm not sure what the reason is, but this screenshot is an example of how I am seeing it on ie8...

by the way, the link above went to the product specifically, but here's a link to the one in the screenshot http://www.wholesale4realtors.com/cart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=65_66_81&products_id=193. ;)

I just turned off the right column, and I'll mess with that later... I've been meaning to do that anyway. :) Should help the format on a few other pages as well, but it still didn't fix what I'm seeing in ie8, and actually I just tried it on another laptop running ie7 and got the same result. It's not the margins, because the problem it they are on seperate lines altogether in some browsers.

Now to answer your questions...

Under option names you have choices for "Text" and another for "File" You can define the text length and muti-line after editing the option post creation. With files you just have to define what files you'll accept, which is under Admin Panel -> configuration -> Max Value

Re: Eliminating wrap-arounds

Umm... well, i didn't change anything in the CSS or anything, but it seems to be working fine now... At least I got the screenshot in there to prove to myself I'm not going looney.

Glad to know that everything cleared, I wasn't seeing any problem in my IE8.
Maybe something in cache?
Thanks a lot for tip on attributes, although I don't use those options, they might come in handy later.
And, what the heck, I got my curiosity quirk satisfied.

Re: Eliminating wrap-arounds

Hey great mod!

I had a question concerning the additional product images. I'd like to move them to the upper right of the main product image...so they are side by side. Then, having additional images going downwards in a vertical line, like they do on the etsy.com website for their products.

I've been able to adjust a few things but for some reason no matter what I do with the .CSS I can't get the additional images to the upper right of the main product image.

Am I missing something? I'd appreciate any thoughts on this one! Thanks!

The code blocks should be able to be moved using float:right;
Or creating an additional nested div inside the div block and floating that one.
You could also set an absolute position for it, there are many solutions.
Always use the included stylesheet for them, in order not to mess up the main.

Re: Eliminating wrap-arounds

Hey thanks for your response!

Hmm, well I attempted the float: right but it had no effect whatsoever on it. When I attempt to adjust any of the values it moves cart's buttons around but not the images.

I'm fairly new still to coding. Sorry to ask but would you mind giving an example of the other recommended solutions? I'm checking out doing the nest div. However, going for an absolute position places the additional images above the description.

Re: Eliminating wrap-arounds

I think that you are looking for a setting in Admin.
Configuration -> Images -> Number of additional images per row.

Re: Eliminating wrap-arounds

Hey Ckosloff!

Thanks for your help again! Sorry it took me so long to get back but I've been swamped with work. I think I have almost everything figured out now but I'm running into something very odd that I only now just noticed...

On my categories page where my products are listed - the small descriptions (my apologies as I am unsure of the correct term for this shortened description), I'm no longer seeing the beginning of the descriptions.

What I am seeing is the following:

"<!-- /* Font Definitions */ @font-face {font-family:"Cambria Math"; panose-1:2 4 5 3 5 4 6 3 2 4; mso-font-charset:0;..."

It's very odd to me... I didn't have it before I made the changes to the products description and it disappears if I change things back... do you happen to have any thoughts on this?

Thanks!

What I see here is an html comment tag inserted by an html editor.
I did not understand very well where you are seeing this, in the admin area?
In the product's page?
I don't use any html editor, they input extraneous characters.
I just type my html in plain text, that way I am sure of what I get.
Also, I am leaving Zen Cart, so my support for these mods will be discontinued shortly.

Re: Eliminating wrap-arounds

Hi. I'm new to zen cart and still working on getting my shopping cart laid out the way I want it. I just saw a link on this forum for a modification called "additional_images_v1.1" that looks like exactly what I'm looking for. I downloaded it and then installed it into the directory tree on my server. When I went back into my shopping cart, nothing had changed. I'm guessing it's because I didn't load it in right because I don't really understand the override system. Right now the directory tree looks like this-- includes/templates/sophyblue1, classic, mistic, sophyblue, template_default-- I added a folder called "custom" and then also the additional folders specified by the modification. Then I uploaded the files. Again, nothing changed. I read on the readme that I need to change the "custom" folder to "the name of my custom template". I'll sound really dumb here, but I don't know what that is or what file name will be recognized by the system so that my cart will be changed. Can somebody please help with that? Thanks in advance!

Re: Eliminating wrap-arounds

You appear to have three templates installed (sophyblue1, mistic, sophyblue) beside the two that come with Zen Cart (classic, template_default). Which one do you have selected to display? That is the one to change the folder name to.
