Product Listing Default Sort Order

I am having a bit of a different problem....I applied the fix for products to default to Newest to Oldest, however...This also ignored the product's sort orders.

I need my product display to go by Product sort order, and if it's not specified on the products, to display newest to oldest.:wacko:

Follow up to this thread.

Can you sort by model number without displaying it in the product listing?

Was it ever determined if this was possible?
I have searched and haven't seen an answer.

Nevermind. I would up configuring EasyPopulate to include the Sort Order field. It is a perfect work around.

Re: Product Listing Default Sort Order

HelenSama:

I am having problems with this and have read this post and others as well as tried various things, I hope I am just missing something and someone can help me with this ---- The URL is http://blockislandhoney.com/ go to either Candles or Novelties to see the problem, For example Novelties, The product listing page is set up in the correct order that my client wants it to be, I used SORT ORDER field to do this, However, when you click on the Yoga CD, the first product, you go to it's product page and it says it is Product 4/7.... It should be 1/7.... then if you click on Next you should see the Calendar which is the next product on the Product Listing page and according to the sort order, but you don't see the calendar. Any general or specific help would be appreciated, if you need to know more about various settings I can provide the information.

Hi, has anyone solved this please? I have the same problem...

Re: Product Listing Default Sort Order

I'm still baffled too. I want the products to display lowest price first. When I click on the "price" on the bar in the actual website to display this order it says "page=1&sort=3a". So I thought, "excellent, I just need to add 3a to each products sort", but it doesn't remember the "a" bit, only the 3. I have searched the forums and have tried different paramaters, but still can't get it to work.

Any ideas? I'm running 1.3.7 and fully patched :lamo:

Re: Product Listing Default Sort Order

Well it appears that after updating to v1.3.9d this 'hack' for sort order does not work for me. I JUST went through in Easy Populate and redid the 'added on' date of every product to display it in the order I wanted, and now they are just showing up however they feel like. :(

Re: Product Listing Default Sort Order

Spent days trying to sort out this :clap: ...in includes/index_filters/default_filter.php comment out line 105:

$listing_sql .= " order by p.products_sort_order, pd.products_name";

and add the following:

$listing_sql .= " order by p.products_date_added DESC, pd.products_name";

Hope this helps!

Re: Product Listing Default Sort Order

Thank you Ajeh!

Your answer from 2008 helped me out today!
In my case: Sort by price is 3a

Thank you again :)

Ajeh:

Actually, that is a misnomer ...

The Sort Order is also determined by what your individual columns are in the Product Listing ...

So your Model might be 1a but mine might be 4a ...

The better way to know what to use is to go to the Product Listing on your site and click the headers until you are in the right order ... then, look in the URL for the &sort=#x and enter your #x for the sort order ... :smile:

Re: Product Listing Default Sort Order

admin/config/product listing/Product Listing Default Sort Order is blank

Which means the sort value seen listed for each category controls the order listed on the page for that Category.

Function confirmed.

BUT

Upon clicking to a product page, the order presented when clicking previous or next is not what I want. They are sorted alphabetically by Product Name.

How to I match the prev/next order when looking at product pages to the listed order on the Category page?

Ajeh:

You need to set each of them for the method that you want to use ...

Well duh. In what way do you suppose that answers my question?

I don't like to be rude but the level of non-answers here is over the top. I am not willing to once again ask the same question over and over again hoping that you will make an honest effort to read the actual question instead of answering some other question you suppose it to be.

Is it more rude for me to point out that your responses are typically useless or for you to typically ignore the question with some non-responsive canned promo hype about how wonderful the software is?

Rather than telling people that "if you want it to work you need to do it right" how about telling them something they don't know? Like how to do it right? Actual instructions instead of platitudes and obvious generalized sound bites that try to deny there is a problem?

I'll rephrase it one more time and if you don't answer I'll give up. I don't have time for your evasions and non sequitur responses. (That's all I've ever gotten here so I am entitled to that characterization.)

The listing order of categories within the main menu header is controlled by the sort order as shown on the admin page with the "Categories / Products - Top" header. I have edited the values and observed the results.

The listing order for the products listed under a particular category is controlled by the sort order as shown on the admin pages with the "Categories / Products - (category name)" header. I have edited the values and observed the results.

From that page, if I click on a product within that Category listing I go to a specific product_info page. There is a line of text telling me the product is #i of j products. This order is alphabetical by product name. Is there any way to change the order that the pages come up when I click the "previous" and "next" buttons?

What controls the order that the product pages are displayed in as you click the previous and next buttons?

It is a simple question and if you cannot answer ("no, you cannot change the prev/next sort order" would be an answer) then I will know for sure that you aren't trying. You are clearly smart enough to understand the question, but I am smart enough to know when someone refuses to answer a question. Why you take that approach I do not know.

Re: Product Listing Default Sort Order

Sorry you took offense to what I thought was a clear answer to setting the Sort Order in each section based on where you needed it ...

Let me attempt to spell this out to you more specifically and see if that helps you ...

The Product Listing ... which you get from Categories Navigation and Searches uses the Configuration ... Product Listing ...

Display Product Listing Default Sort Order
Product Listing Default sort order?
NOTE: Leave Blank for Product Sort Order. Sort the Product Listing in the order you wish for the default display to start in to get the sort order setting. Example: 2a

All Products uses the settings in the Configuration ... All Listing ...

Display Product Display - Default Sort Order
What Sort Order Default should be used for All Products Display?
Default= 1 for Product Name

1= Products Name
2= Products Name Desc
3= Price low to high, Products Name
4= Price high to low, Products Name
5= Model
6= Date Added desc
7= Date Added
8= Product Sort Order

New Listing uses the Configuration ... New Listing ...

Display Product Display - Default Sort Order
What Sort Order Default should be used for New Products Display?
Default= 6 for Date New to Old

1= Products Name
2= Products Name Desc
3= Price low to high, Products Name
4= Price high to low, Products Name
5= Model
6= Date Added desc
7= Date Added
8= Product Sort Order

Featured Listing uses the Configuration ... Featured Listing ...

Display Product Display - Default Sort Order
What Sort Order Default should be used for Featured Product Display?
Default= 1 for Product Name

1= Products Name
2= Products Name Desc
3= Price low to high, Products Name
4= Price high to low, Products Name
5= Model
6= Date Added desc
7= Date Added
8= Product Sort Order

The Product _info pages uses the Configuration ... Product Info ...

Previous Next - Sort Order
Products Display Order by
0= Product ID
1= Product Name
2= Model
3= Price, Product Name
4= Price, Model
5= Product Name, Model
6= Product Sort Order

Each has its own listing and each needs to be set in the manner that you wish to see your Products ...

Re: Product Listing Default Sort Order

Nice summary!

It does not answer my question.

You never answer the actual question.

Did you read my question? It's in the big black letters.

I do not use the All Products, Featured Products or New Products functionality.

Which part of your answer addresses the previous/next button functionality of looking at product info pages in a sequence which I wish to control?

I conclude that the answer is "that is the default behavior and you have to write code to change it" which would be a perfectly good answer but one you folks seem forbidden to write.

I am not going to once again keep rephrasing my question. I give up.

No wait I found the answer:

config/Product Info/Previous Next Sort Order

You didn't know that? As if.

That's the game here then? You guys are a piece of work.

Re: Product Listing Default Sort Order

Which part did you not comprehend? :unsure:

You want to change the Sort Order for the Product _info page ... correct?

Could you try setting that setting as I posted for you?

Does it now sort in the order of the products_sort_order when you set that setting?

Re: Product Listing Default Sort Order

I'm using 1.3.9f. This was driving me nuts, too, and the more I read, the more frustrated I got until I couldn't understand any of the advice here. But finally, the ah ha moment. You choose how to set prev/next in Admin>Config>Product Info>Previous Next - Sort Order. There are six options.

If none of the six options is what you want, you can manually set the order for each product in Catalog>Categories/Products>(Your Category)(Your Product) using Sort Order at the bottom of the page.

Then under the Admin>Config>Product Info>Previous Next - Sort Order, select option 6 Product Sort Order in the drop down menu and it will use the order you set product by product.

When nothing is making sense, it's time to quit for the day.

Re: Product Listing Default Sort Order

Hi, I'm using ZC 1.3.9g and Product Filter from Contus Support Interactive.
I followed the install instructions and just copied the two files to my server, overwriting the files already there.
The filters work like a charm, however the product sort order set in admin does not work. It seems as when the product listing page is accessed, the default sort order is now from oldest to newest product.
Is it possible to get the default sort order from admin on the product page as default?
When I uncomment:
// $listing_sql .= " order by p.products_sort_order desc, pd.products_name";
Then the sort order is restored, but then the filters don't work.

Any help would be great.

Cheers
Endre

Re: Product Listing Default Sort Order

I followed the instructions and changed the default_filter.php as instructed.

But it's not working for me. I read all the comments here, some are still confusing, however.. changing that seemed to help everyone but not in my case.

Please look at my main page crossstitchaddicts.com

I want the newest products to be at the top, not the bottom.:cry:
