Two sets of attributes for 350.000 products

Hello,

I have a Zencart running (1.3.7) with > 350.000 products.
These products can be either of type A or B.

Now I would like to add a different set of product attributes for each type.

I know how to set this up according Linda's tutorial:
https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=57

However, if each set would contain fe. 3 attributes, this means that I have to add 3x350.000=1.050.000 attributes in the product attributes table! This seems rather inefficient to me since the attributes set is the same for every product, depending whether the product is of type A of B

I was wondering whether this could be done in a more efficient way.

I hope you get my point. Any ideas/pointers/suggestions? Many thanks in advance!!!!

Best regards,

Re: Two sets of attributes for 350.000 products

MySQL is very good at handling large databases, much larger than yours. So this may not be as a big a deal as it sounds (subject to server power). The important fields in the product_attributes table are all properly indexed, which will also help.

If you wanted to streamline things a bit, you could look at attribute table fields that you aren't using, such as the stuff about weight maybe, and remove them from the table and all references to them from your code.
