Page created not on Admin. Define Page Status

The link is on all web pages, just not on the admin.

While I have you here  The "General Information" link works, goes to the right page, but the text I wrote is not there. What gives?

Re: Page created not on Admin. Define Page Status

Okay...I added a link in the "Information" sidebox. Everything works (i.e., the link goes to a newly created page). It's on this new page that the text I created for it isn't showing up. Just a blank page with the "Back" button, title, etc. on it.

Re: Page created not on Admin. Define Page Status

I forgot to add the second part of the question.

After adding the "General Information" page on the "Information" sidebar, I checked the "Define Page Status" in Admin., but it's not there. Does that make sense?

Re: Page created not on Admin. Define Page Status

Assuming you cloned something like page_2 ... did you set up a define for the page also, something like:
DEFINE_PAGE_2_STATUS

And did you set its value to 1? Otherwise if not defined the value is 0 or OFF ...

Also, on the define page file in the:
/includes/languages/english/html_includes

Did you place a file there AND in your templates and overrides directory?
/includes/languages/english/html_includes/your_template_dir

Otherwise there isn't anything to override in order to display something ...

Re: Page created not on Admin. Define Page Status

To create the page I followed the instructions of a person who was trying to do the same as me. They had a numbered list of steps. Unfortunately, I can't remember who posted it or where I found it. I don't know if their information was a clone.

Where would the overrides directory be. I don't think I put one in there.

Am I understanding correctly that I need to put three files in:

"...on the define page file in the:
/includes/languages/english/html_includes"

"Did you place a file there AND in your templates and overrides directory?
/includes/languages/english/html_includes/your_template_dir"

Re: Page created not on Admin. Define Page Status

You need to clone all of the pages such as:
page_2

uses ... if you do a search in the Tools ... Developers Tool Kit ... for:
page_2

You should see all the files that you need to create ...

NOTE: that the directory:
/includes/modules/pages/page_2

has a file in it that also needs to be cloned and updated for the:
header_php.php

Re: Page created not on Admin. Define Page Status

It will not automatically add itself to the configuration table ... you need to do that ...

What is the configuration_key that you are using for this page?

I honestly don't know. I cloned Page_2 like I was told to and it still doesn't work. That's all I know:cry:

Re: Page created not on Admin. Define Page Status

I tried contacting the person who made it...nothing. I tried going over everything I've been told to do...nothing. It doesn't make any sense. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. It obviously has worked for others, but then again, their expertise is in this. Mine is in something different. It's like doctors. A brain surgeon knows more about working on the brain than they would other parts of the anatomy. I'm in the same boat. I know some things, but not this. Why, why, why....

Re: Page created not on Admin. Define Page Status

I finally found a template download that does exactly what I want as far as creating new pages.

I cloned the "about us" download and changed everything that said "about us" to "mypagename", uploaded it to the server, changed the link associated with it and I got FINALLY got the page I always wanted.

http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=40_47

Now it still does not show up in the define page status under Admin, but I can change what i need Define Page Editor. Hope this helps you get your page up and running.

Re: Page created not on Admin. Define Page Status

I followed the instructions from the download mentioned above. Unfortunately, I am not sure what the name of my "main template" is. Can anyone help? How would I find out what it is? I simply uploaded zencart from my host, named the folder zencart and let it upload. I have no idea what else to do.

Re: Page created not on Admin. Define Page Status

The "main template" is the one you use for your site ...

You can see it in the View Source as well as the Tools ... Template Selection ...

Re: Page created not on Admin. Define Page Status

I have tried redownloading the about_us zip and doing it over, nothing. I followed people's directions verbatim, nothing. I have cloned page_2, nothing. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. It obviously works because others have done it. Yet, I still can not get the page to work. Once finished I receive a page error (the custom one Zen Cart provides). I am using the template furnished by Zen Cart as my main template. I have renamed the folders, as requested on the zip, classic_contemporary_green. When that didn't work, I renamed them classic. That didn't work. I am running out of options here and still not sure what I'm doing wrong. Do I have to take each file from the zip and place them in the folders (i.e., "1. Edit the following files to contain the about-us text you wish to display:
/includes/languages/english/MYTEMPLATE/about_us.php
/includes/languages/english/extra_definitions/MYTEMPLATE/about_us.php
/includes/languages/english/html_includes/MYTEMPLATE/define_about_us.php
--- you can edit this file in Admin with the Define Pages Editor
--- using this file for edits via admin is easier to maintain, and lets you use the
HTMLAREA rich-text editing capabilities of your browser, if enabled in your shop

  1. Rename the four "MYTEMPLATE" folders to be the same name as your main template.

  2. Upload all the files to your server, using similar folder structure as found in this ZIP."), or do I just have to upload the zip and cross my fingers? I followed the above example but it doesn't say whether or not I have to manually place each folder from the zip into each corresponding folder. Since it didn't, I just uploaded it and followed the directions after it, which also led to some problems.

I understand how much of a pain this is for you to keep reading my problems and I am sure there are simple solutions, although, I haven't been told what it is yet. I really want this to work and enjoy what Zen Cart has to offer, but it's a little confusing. Please help.

Please don't give up just yet, you might have made the same mistakes that I have made by not adding everything where they need to be.

Re: Page created not on Admin. Define Page Status

You have the file here:
/includes/languages/english/MYTEMPLATE/about_us.php
/includes/languages/english/html_includes/MYTEMPLATE/define_about_us.php

Do you also have the file here:
/includes/languages/english/about_us.php
/includes/languages/english/html_includes/define_about_us.php

If not ... then there is nothing to override so there is nothing to show ... :lamo:
