user buys a service with no download

hi all

i'm a complete newbee, but i'm trying to learn this great piece of software - need a little help:

i'm selling ebooks which will have a d/l link sent to the customer after payment through paypal IPN - is there anything i should know regarding the safekeeping of the files on the server? ie: prevent those nice hackers et al from accessing my downloads folder?

i'm also selling services to customers through paypal ipn. However, there is nothing to download, they're just buying a service from me. How do i set it up that they receive acknowledgement of their payment, while also informing them that there's nothing to download? i searched but didn't find anything.

is this possible with zencart? selling a service, but not shipping or having a d/l link?

I have a download store as well and what I did was to add a .httaccess and then add these lines to the .httaccess:

<Files *.zip>   
Order Deny,Allow   
Deny from all  
</Files>

RewriteEngine on 
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ - [F] 

with these codes not one will be able to download stuff or see the download folder content.

thanks maclancer - i assume the htaccess file goes in the 'downloads' dir and NOT the root dir of zencart?

When setup correctly, the checkout_shipping is automatically skipped during the checkout process ...
