Determining shipping after order is complete

I am attempting to get shipping set up for a client who sells a variety of products ranging from paper patterns (2 sheets of paper, postage 41 cents) to wind chime kits that weigh 8 or 9 pounds. We've tried weight units, we've tried per-unit fees, we've tried table-based shipping costs, and every time she finds fault with the way the cart figures shipping.

Now she wants to skip calculating shipping altogether, and just post a note on the order form that the customer will be contacted with order total after the order is packed and shipping is determined. Since she is using an offline method of credit card processing, this won't cause a problem with the payment gateway.

How do I turn off shipping calculations completely?

Thanks

Re: Determining shipping after order is complete

If I was you, I would discourage your client from going this route. People will
balk if they can't find out how much they're on the hook for before pressing
the confirm button.

Good luck,
Scott

Re: Determining shipping after order is complete

Oh, Scott, I agree completely and have done my best to talk her out of it. No luck so far, though. She's... shall we say difficult to convince, sometimes. Thanks.
