How Do You Handle Your Orders?

My Zen Cart is up and running very well. I am so pleased with it. I was wondering, though, how you all use the Orders area. I am starting to get them piling up now. I have been so used to filling my orders the following way, am I not taking advantage of the Zen Cart features? Here is how I am filling orders:

  • Get a notice that someone has bought something. I get two notices, one from PayPal with a link to my PayPal account. I use this link to make up the shipping label and pay for it to the Post Office. The other notice is a Zen Cart one with the order in detail.
  • Put the items ordered in a shipping bag, then I print out the Zen Cart generated order because it has all of the relevant information on it (what was bought, how they want it shipped, etc.) and put one copy in the shipment as a packing slip and keep the other copy for my records.
  • Click the link to PayPal from the PayPal receipt and go to the mailing label area and buy a label and print it out and put it on the mailing bag.
  • File the electronic notices (Zen Cart and PayPal)
  • Go to the next order and do the same. This arrangement seems to be working well and is very efficient, but I am worried that I am not taking full advantage of Zen Cart's abilities. I don't think I can buy a mailing label through Zen Cart, at least I don't see how to do that. Am I missing something.?

Do you let the orders pile up in the Orders area or do you delete them? I am not planning on using that feature (telling the customer if the order is pending/delivered) because I am going to be doing that anyway when I fill the order (the post office gives them a click 'n ship when I buy postage) which they are looking for.

No, buying your postage/shipping through Zen Cart is not part of the stock installation at this time.

You should keep records for tax purposes and should consult with your accountant on the hows and wheres.

You may also want to use the Order Status because your customers can look at the order history in their My Account area.
