There is no add new category button

I need to add a category but there is no "add new category" button on my categories/products page. I saw a post in this forum that said to look for that. Why is it not there and how do I get it?

Are you looking for this in a category where you have already created products?

If so, you would need to remove the products as categories can only contain sub-categories OR products.

Never mind. I deleted all the products and there it was. Categories must be defined before you add products or there will be no "add new category" button.

Not entirely correct. Categories and products should NEVER appear in the same folder, or else the products that you put in those categories will not be listed properly. That's why the Add Categories button is taken away as soon as you put products in a folder.

I've heard that many times, but no one has ever said exactly what problems it causes. Do you know what would actually happen when categories and products are mixed?

Pricing works wrong ... Searches work wrong ... lots of things work wrong ...

Categories hold Categories OR Products ... but never hold both ...
