After my last post, I decided to try uploading images one more time, and it worked! But not the way it's supposed to. I think I stumbled on to the answer by accident. Here's how you do it...
- Copy every image you want to use for your option values onto your server into the /images/attributes folder. It's important that you have the exact same file names on both your remote server and your local computer.
- Next, open the Attributes Controller in the Admin and select a product needing option value images. Select an option value to "Edit" or select an option name and value to add to that product.
- "Browse" your local computer for an "Attributes Image Swatch" and find the file name that exactly matches the one you copied to your server.
- Here's the strangest, but most important part: Select "No" for "Overwrite Existing Image on Server" And "No" for "Delete Image." If you check "Yes" for Overwrite Image, it will delete the existing file and put nothing there in its place. Similarly, if there is no file on the server to begin with, it still will not upload the one from your computer onto the server. I think this is where the bug exists.
- After selecting the image, click "Update," or "Insert" if you are adding a new option value, and presto! You will get a message at the top of the screen that says: "WARNING: FILENAME was updated but not overwritten." But a little yellow dot should appear next to the option value, meaning an image is there!
So, the only explanation is that the Admin uploads a filename from your computer and connects it with the image that's already on the server with that same name. Doing it any other way results in NO image, or the deletion of your image off the server.
It was amazing to open my website and actually see real images next to my attributes! I hope this works for everyone else having the same problem.
