change login direction

i need to change where the login takes me from the top left login option. all the other logins throughout the site take me where they are supposed to, but when i use the one on the main page at the top left it takes me to a welcome screen, just wondering if that login link is in a certain place or something

my site is not online, but im talking about the login from the main index page at like the top left of the page, dunno if that helps or not. sorry

I am totally confused by this login issue. Login links always appear to take the user back to the welcome page. Surely if you login from a product page you should return to that product page. Am I missing something somewhere?
