Center Column - Layout & New Products

Hi,
I'm having problems figuring out which pages allow me to edit the layout of the center column, any pointers?

Also, the so called 'New Products for <month>' in the center column is actually listing a random selection of every product, no matter when they were added to the product listings... Where would this be created?

The site in question is https://www.undergroundtoys.co.uk. The build was started by someone else, functions, but now I'm trying to tidy things up.... :frusty:

Re: Center Column - Layout & New Products

You need to define "What are New Products" in the Configuration ... Maximum Values ...

New Product Listing - Limited to ...
Limit the New Product Listing to
0= All Products
1= Current Month
7= 7 Days
14= 14 Days
30= 30 Days
60= 60 Days
90= 90 Days
120= 120 Days

NOTE: there is a bug on this in older versions of Zen Cart ... so you will want to be sure that you are current and up to date ...

Right now, I just need to know where all the pieces are and how to manipulate them, i.e. get rid of that space between the 'welcome to our store' image and the list of August prods...

This could probably be fixed by just editing the CSS. Usually when I want to make changes to something I highlight it > right click> select view selection source. You can then see the objects class or id. Then go to your CSS and edit it as needed. It sounds like the spacing thing would simply take a simple edit of the "padding" to fix.

That was useful thanks, and it helped to find that white space, Ta!.... What is missing from all the turorials/forums though (as far as I can see) is a basic visual guide to what makes up the average template/page. I.e. these pages control the top section, these pages control the left etc....

Glad I could be of help ;-)

That's for sure! Just from working with Zen Cart for a month now I've realized that it's pretty complicated. From what I understand is that there are a bunch of PHP files called (even database tables) to make one page appear! I don't it very well yet. If you find something on this post a link here!

Yeah, I'm about 3 weeks in, and making sense of the 'behind the scenes' structure is definitely tricky. If I find something that makes changing the look/using templates easily understandable I'll let you know....! :wink:

I totally agree with you! If the administrators of the forum are listening, I hope that they take heart.
