Zip files no longer valid - downloadable products

For some reason, all my zips in my store are no longer valid. When a customer downloads a zip file and unzips the 'not a valid archive' message comes up. I've tried through FTP deleting the zip file and re-uploading it, but that doesn't solve the problem. I've tested several files from my store and this is happening to all of them. The zip files are fine when I download them straight from the server via FTP. It's only when I 'order' them through the store that they don't work.

Does anyone have any ideas why my zip files stopped being valid? Even when I delete the files from the download folder and re-FTP them, they don't work. Help please...

2 switch to Redirect OFF and try a tiny file, does it work?

3 switch to Redirect ON and try a large or file you know doesn't work today, does it work?

1. Tried a tiny file (under 100kb) and it didn't work.

2. How do I turn the redirect off?

Peek in the Configuration ... Attribute Settings ...

Also check that you have a nice green dot next to the filename on the Attribute for the Product that you are testing ...

Now I am worried because when I tried #1 (a small file) I created it as a new product and set up the download as if it were a new product and it didn't work. I have tried deleting products (zips) from the downloads folder and re-ftping them to the same folder and they still don't work.

I tested to see if the zip files are valid by FTPing them with Filezilla and the one I tested (the small file I made to test #1) unzipped fine.

You have had successful downloads prior to now ... and suddenly this started happening?

What has changed on your server? php version? MySQL version?

Have you asked your host if anything has changed?

Yes, the downloads were fine until recently. I found out when a freebie that I had in my store which gets downloaded daily stopped working and I started getting emails from customers telling me the zips weren't valid.

I have sent an email to the host to see if anything has changed - they said nothing.

What kind of filenames are you using?

Are you avoiding spaces, special characters, etc.?

What happens if you first delete an existing download file in the /download and reload it ...

NOTE: v1.3.5 is not the most stable version of Zen Cart and I would recommend upgrading in the near future ...

The current version is Zen Cart v1.3.7.1 ...

You might for fun install v1.3.7.1 into a temp directory using a new database with the demo data and just test to see if this is working ...

Do you have any add-ons such as SEO or anything that might touch attributes?

I just tried the redirect/streaming suggestion and the zip still is giving an error of invalid zip file. I have deleted all the downloads in my download folder and was going to upload them all (I downloaded them, checked them once they were on my computer and they unzip fine from my computer.) BUT, they still don't work once they are uploaded. I've tested 4 downloads already.

Can you open one of the downloaded files that's "corrupt", using a hex editor and see whether there is extra HTML at the top and/or bottom of the file?

Sorry for asking - hex editor? I just read the wikipedia on hex editors and I'm not sure I'd even know what I'd be looking at/for...

A text editor operating in hexadecimal mode.
I assume your downloads are not text files, so would have to be viewed in binary format ... which a hexadecimal editor can accomplish.

A good free editor that can handle hexadecimal mode via built-in plugins is Notepad++I believe you can trigger hex mode via Ctrl-Alt-Shift-H. In fact, opening a binary (zip, exe, pdf) file with it will probably put it into hex mode automatically.

You could even try using your existing favorite text editor to see if there's any extra stuff at the top or bottom. Hopefully your download files aren't too huge ...

This is an old thread...but seems to be a good topic for me now as well. For some reason some of my zips are coming up as invalid. I have removed them from the download.....rezipped them and then reuploaded them to the downloads section....and still invalid. I ended up having to unzip the file and send the customer the pieces individually via e-mail.

So.....did anyone come up with a reason why this is happening and a possible solution?

How large are the files that you are having trouble with?

They vary. It has been happening with all of my files under the category of "wrappers". Weird....I know.....I have deleted them from the download section and have rezipped them on my hard drive and then re-uploaded them. Still get the same error.

What are the filenames like?

You have them all loaded to the:
/download

directory and /pub is set to 777, correct?

Can you guestimate the size of the files with issues? are they tiny little specks or are they large things that might be timing out or some other such nonsense? :unsure:
