Trouble turning off shopping cart weight, total etc

**I found the tutorial/FAQ entitled:

**```html
Is it possible to turn off shopping cart line that says "Weight: 0lbs" in "Total Items: 1 Weight: 0lbs Amount: $38.95"?

                 Yes.

Go to: Admin->Configuration->Shipping/Packaging
Select Display Number of Boxes and Weight Status
Choose the desired setting:
0= off
1= Boxes Only
2= Weight Only
3= Both Boxes and Weight

I'm displaying the shipping estimator at the bottom of the shopping cart, so the information atop the shopping cart contents is redundant. I only want shoppers to the shipping estimator's information.

Check your template against the stock code.

Please do not PM for support issues: a private solution doesn't benefit the community.

Be careful with unsolicited advice via email or PM - Make sure the person you are talking to is a reliable source.

Re: Trouble turning off shopping cart weight, total etc

Usually ... because you see the totals either on the shopping cart or on the shipping estimator in a pop up, there is a switch to turn this on and off ...

Since you are showing the shipping estimator on the shopping cart rather than in the popup, you will need to override either the tpl_modules_shipping_estimator.php or tpl_shopping_cart_default.php template ...

In the tpl_module_shipping_estimator.php there are two sections of code to comment out ... both peices are similar to:

<?php if (!empty($totalsDisplay)) { ?>
<div class="cartTotalsDisplay important"><?php echo $totalsDisplay; ?></div>
<?php } ?>

and change to:

<?php if (!empty($totalsDisplay)) { ?> <!-- <div class="cartTotalsDisplay important"><?php echo $totalsDisplay; ?></div> --> <?php } ?>

If you do not want this at the top of the tpl_shopping_cart_default.php then you would comment out:

<?php if (!empty($totalsDisplay)) { ?>
  <div class="cartTotalsDisplay important"><?php echo $totalsDisplay; ?></div>
  <br class="clearBoth" />
<?php } ?>

with:

<?php if (!empty($totalsDisplay)) { ?>
<!--  <div class="cartTotalsDisplay important"><?php echo $totalsDisplay; ?></div>
  <br class="clearBoth" /> -->
<?php } ?>

NOTE: if you do not want this at all ... do not touch the code and use the switch Kim has suggested and turn it OFF and both will not show ...

If they still show, then your template is not written to allow for using the switch or the code could be different in how this is displayed and you will need to work that out ...

Re: Trouble turning off shopping cart weight, total etc

Not a problem ... you just want me to write another handy dandy switch for the Shipping Estimator ... :cool:

I kinda sorta forgot about when you have the Shipping Estimator display on the Shopping Cart that some don't want the totals twice ... :unsure:

Granted, add a couple or three products to the cart and it's nice to have the extra display so you don't have to scroll up to see it ... :smartalec:

Re: Trouble turning off shopping cart weight, total etc

my only reason for not wanting to display the cart weight and totals at the top is that the weight information is different than the shipping estimator because of tar weight. I can imagine shoppers wondering why they are different.

Re: Trouble turning off shopping cart weight, total etc

Try this easy solution FIRST before following the advice above:

Admin>configuration>layout settings>Shopping Cart - Show Totals>set to '0'.

This worked great for my sites :clap:

Re: Trouble turning off shopping cart weight, total etc

Excellent!

Option 3 shows totals except weight! Just what I was looking for.

Setting up a new site and have spent hours and hours here and on the WIKI.

I will search to all extremes before I post and this is my first post.

Thanks to all! Not just for this advice but for every post! I'm sure you all can imagine the hours I have spent for configuration and cannot wait to open it up for review. Hopefully my next post will be soon and will be asking for reviews.

Thanks again for all your advice!

Re: Trouble turning off shopping cart weight, total etc

I don't want it to go away, I just want it to display correctly. What I have right now is:
Items: 6Amount: $575.00
What I would like is
Items: 6; Amount: $575.00

I have looked at the code and I do not see why it displays this way - Firefox, Opera, and Safari on Mac

The code in shopping_cart.php has   Amount: '); but the code that makes use of this seems to ignore those spaces. Any suggestions?

Re: Trouble turning off shopping cart weight, total etc

I thought of one more thing to try and that was it. Look for places where the TEXT_TOTAL_AMOUNT is defined. That was the trick:
includes/languages/english/extra_definitions/cart_summary_sidebox.php
has this:
define('TEXT_TOTAL_AMOUNT', 'Amount: ');
instead of this:
define('TEXT_TOTAL_AMOUNT', '  Amount: ');

Anyway - in case someone else needed this.
