Migrate from PHP4 to PHP5 while using 1.3.7?

I'm considering requesting my host to migrate the account my store is on from PHP4.4.6 to PHP5.2 in order to have everything in place when ZC1.3.8 and 1.4 are released.

What are the down sides to making the server update now as opposed to waiting until 1.4 is released?

If there are no serious down sides, does someone have a list of things to check after an update to make sure everything is still working (or doesn't get broken in the first place)?

Well, in my case, my host has switched to PHP 5.2 without letting me know and I saw no difference at all.

LOL!

I have an image in my head of kid testing the water with his toe before easing into the pool. Then the bigger kid comes from behind and gives him a push!
