REAL TROUBLE: using paypal on multiple sites - PLEASE HELP!

Hi - all seemed to be OK...
CASE: Customer placed an order, pays through PayPal IPN - I'm receiving email from paypal of the order, but there is nothing in ZC (no transactions recorded in PayPal Instant Payment Notifications).

Here is the scoop: I'm using multiple sites with the same PayPal account - one is ZC another is not. I have followed with all instructions on wiki, etc. to install PP on ZC.
One difference: I have already an IPN URL in PayPal account set to the other (non-ZC) site.

Based on the notice in PayPay IPN module: "If another URL is already used, you may leave it alone." - I left it alone, but I'm suspecting that this is the problem why no order is placed in the cart - Can anyone confirm/advise?

ZC: 1.3.7.1

Thanks a lot,

Re: REAL TROUBLE: using paypal on multiple sites - PLEASE HELP!

Here is an update:

To speed and simplify the things for the first testing, I have changed the IPN URL in PayPal account to match the ZC.

HOWEVER, I think I see here another problem:
If customer, after completing the payment at PayPal DOES NOT click the "Return to [your company]" button, then the order is NOT 'reported' to Zen Cart... Maybe that's why I didn't really see this comming, since I was a "good customer," clicking all the requested buttons... :cool:

SO, I did two tests: one, again by clicking the "return to [company]" button -- the order confirmation was sent/received via ZC

second: I processed to the "you sucessfully completed your payment" PayPal page, and closed the window without clicking on that button. The order was not reported to ZC, however the standard confirmation email from PP was sent/received.

===
I'm going to do another test - change the IPN URL back to my other non-ZC page URL and repeat the tests... - if, in the mean time someone has an idea how to actually fix it (I guess, this must be something going wrong with my setup - otherwise everybody will scream and say they did not received any confirmation or order into ZC...)

Or - maybe I should place an statement in checkout page 4, to prompt customers to click that button???

Please speak your mind - thanks,

Have you set up the link to zencart respond_handler in your paypal account?

I'm not sure I follow: do you mean the ipn_main_handler.php? - yes, I did.

I have some results to share - I need couple of minutes - let's talk then,
Thanks

Re: REAL TROUBLE: using paypal on multiple sites - PLEASE HELP!

Allright - here is more:

It seems, in fact, like there is another beast there:

  1. The customer who's order did not show up in ZC did not have PayPal account.
  2. In Paypal's Selling Preferences >Website Payment Preferences, where you change the Auto Return for Website Payments to "ON," there is a link for more information: and there is a note:

Note: If you have turned on Auto Return and have chosen to turn on PayPal Account Optional for new users, a new user will not be automatically directed back to your website, but will be given the option to return.

So, if I turn off the PayPal Account Optional, then the customer without PP account is FORCED to create one.... because there is no other way...
It's like between rock and a hard place...

Anyone have an idea how to solve it?

==
The IPN I guess had nothing to do with the situation...

The Problem now, is how the heck I get the customer order which seats somewhere in database (I hope) - I was wondering, if admin could login to customer account and maybe that way I would be able to clean the Cart... - or is there any other way? I cannot process an order, because I don't know what the customer has ordered, and it will look kind silly to call/email customer asking them for that...
