Guy's I really need some help here! I have been trying to fix this for a week!!!!!!

Well since it worked it the root what your telling me is the virtual server is not configured properly Because as far as the cart goes I just coppied what I had and I have control over that. So the links from the dadtbase should be fine because they are contained inside of the cart correct? But see I guess I still do not understand I can sit right here and touch ths server When I moved it I copied it from one directory to another. So how would permissions change inside the cart? If it see's the index.php should it not see the rest? I still have it in the root of this server SHould I try and go back to that and do a fresh install in the new area? What is the best approach?

Re: Guy's I really need some help here! I have been trying to fix this for a week!!!!!!

PetesTown:

what your telling me is the virtual server is not configured properly

Probably, yes.
But something's also amuck with your IP forwarding. If all you have is a CNAME to point the traffic to your static IP, it should work fine. If you're using URL Masking and frame forwarding or other junk, it's going to be a mess.

If I'm gonna go shopping at your store, and I type in your domain name, and it bumps me to some other IP address in my browser, I'm gonna think twice about the professionalism and reliability of the site I'm going to ... cuz if I'm just a simple user and haven't ever seen that happen before, then I'm gonna pack up my credit card and go someplace else where that doesn't happen.

Wiping and re-installing is not likely going to get you anywhere until you get the other issues sorted out first.

To have it working properly, you need to be able to get to a page that contains subdirectories after the forwarding happens.

The fact that it "worked fine at the root" was a fluke.

Re: Guy's I really need some help here! I have been trying to fix this for a week!!!!!!

Well theere is no frame forwarding or masking. It is just an HTTP froward from 1on1. And the IP address has always come up in the browser I have not been able to figure that out. The server ie that IP is sitting right next to me and I am using it as a computer right now as well I originaly did the install in the root var/www/html/petescart. I did all the developement there and it has worked fine for over 2 months. This all started when I coppied it for the /var/www/html/petescart to the home/petestown/public_html/petescart So the petescart is the same. And basicaly its a namebased virtual area here on this server. All the URLS make it there and YES it shows my static IP address. So I guess the problem has to be in the virtual configuration nd not in the cart

Correct

PetesTown:

Well theere is no frame forwarding or masking. It is just an HTTP froward from 1on1. And the IP address has always come up in the browser I have not been able to figure that out.If you can get DNS control over the domain, you should be able to set the CNAME to point directly to you, instead of using an HTTP forward. That would get around the IP address showing up.

Re: Guy's I really need some help here! I have been trying to fix this for a week!!!!!!

Doc I have another question? Also since I moved it I cannot get to the control pannel. No matter what URL I put ADMIN after just takes me to the same page same mess? I have also tried to go back to te root directory and start the old setup. I pointedwww.petesboots.com to the IP address 76.245.94.169/petes/petescart and it does nothing? How do I point the database back to that one while I play with this other setup?

Re: Guy's I really need some help here! I have been trying to fix this for a week!!!!!!

I think that's symptomatic of the same problem ... where the use of any subdirectory is causing things to croak.

I think your vhost configuration needs to have some wildcard added to it to preserve the entire path of the originally requested address that it's translating for.

Hummmm OK I was just in the 1on1 control pannel and found the CNAME area you spoke of what do they mean when they ask for an alias? I have posted in the Apache and Webmin forums also in regards to this virtual issue to try and gain some insight! I is there away to reset the database to point to the old spot?

PetesTown:

Are you referring to your Zen Cart database? If so, just set the database parameters in your configure.php file.

  define('DB_PREFIX', '');
  define('DB_SERVER', 'localhost');
  define('DB_SERVER_USERNAME', 'blah');
  define('DB_SERVER_PASSWORD', 'blahblah');
  define('DB_DATABASE', 'blahblahblah');

Re: Guy's I really need some help here! I have been trying to fix this for a week!!!!!!

PetesTown:

Hi Dr Byte,

The URL's are forwarded from 1on1 to this serverIts a custom in hose server here at the store. We are going to have a few stores on here. So I have a static IP the one you see. Having on static IP and several or a few stores we have researched and found that creating multiple apache Virtualy host is the way to do it. When I first started it was in the root and working great. I just coppied that to the new directory after I set up the virtual server and thats how this mess began.it finds it and sends it where it needs to be obviously but it has lost the style sheet and the communication with database. It seems like its there but its all just not communicating
                                             Rich

If you truly want to run a Server from your Store location then you should hire a qualified Server Admin. I know I am being blunt here but it is obvious the problems you are currently having are not with Zen Cart but your Server setup. There are other problems as well that you are not even aware of.

People could spend weeks answering your various questions and you will have many, but in the long run it will not help you. I can almost guarantee, at some point and perhaps soon, you are going to be hacked. It will have nothing to do with Zen Cart but everything to do with an improperly setup Server.

Do yourself and your Clients a favour, take the Server offline, now!

Run your Zen Cart(s) from your Hosting account with 1 & 1, like you were before without any problems it seems, and take the time to hire someone for looking after your in-house Server. Remember that you are handling the Financial information of people and you should treat that information with respect. To do something "because you can" does not mean it is the correct nor right way to do it.

The learning is in the doing.

Re: Guy's I really need some help here! I have been trying to fix this for a week!!!!!!

WebSite Rob
I do thank you for your thoughts and concern. I can assure you that the security is as good as one can hope for. Mod Security in conjuction with shorewall and the SSL socket, all sitting behind a Cisco router will be fine. ANd when it was working it was on this machine as well. This happened when we went to the virtual setup. I am not computer illiterate just a Linux NEWBIE as well as a ZENCART newbie. I was a mainframe programmer for many years on IBM and WANG machines but today's PC's are much diffrent LOL This is a family owned business thats been around for over 30 years doing business in the mid-south Jonesboro Arkansas. I do have R&D in Chicago who is a personnel friend and a Linux person by trade..
When some family members came to me and asked me to help with this project I did my research and choose ZENCART! Why open source yes. But I have seen it and ordered from other people who have it and I found that the support forum was better than any other I have ever seen. So I may ask allot of questions But thats why I choose Zencart to learn from the knowlege that is hear. I have never used a style sheet LOL But I have only been doing this for about two months now. When I am finished I hope to able to sit in here and give back alittle knowledge myself! After all I am retired just playing LOL. I do want to thank everyone who shares and takes the time to help. This is a wonderful place

Re: Guy's I really need some help here! I have been trying to fix this for a week!!!!!!

Hi DOC,

I solved the DNS problem! I fix that through 1&!. So I deleted the Virtual Server Configuration! I then took <https://www.petesboots.org> and redirected it to the original setup where it worked for the last couple of months! this directory is /var/www/html/petes/petescart/ thats where I COPPIED the good working configuration from. I never deleted it and I never changed the config files. Now this was working so it would stand to reason that it should still work because I changed the URLS to point to the new one and just left this here. If you look at <https://www.petestown.com> or <https://www.petesboots.com> those are still done dns to the IP and just get the Apache test page. The <https://www.petesboots.org> points to the old GOOD NEVER CHANGED configuration. Why does that one not work?

                                                                                           Rich

Re: Guy's I really need some help here! I have been trying to fix this for a week!!!!!!

What have you done for each domain in the DNS settings at 1and1 ?

It seems pretty clear that the .org domain hasn't been forwarded properly.
And the boots.com and town.com domains don't have the vhosts set up to point to the right destination folder properly.

Re: Guy's I really need some help here! I have been trying to fix this for a week!!!!!!

I set the .ORG right to the directory for testing purposes. The other domains are now done via DNS forwarding to of coarse the IP address of this server as we talked about the other day and thus as you said just the URL comes up in the browser. I took the ORG and did it the same way I had it before when it was working in that root directory. As I said just for testing purposes. As you can see it is acting the same way as well? Your thoughts would be appreciated. It was definatly not the Virtual Server!!

Re: Guy's I really need some help here! I have been trying to fix this for a week!!!!!!

The files are to big for all at once I am going to make 2 post for the httpd.confg then I will check on the conf.d file

#
# DirectoryIndex: sets the file that Apache will serve if a directory
# is requested.
##
# This is the main Apache server configuration file. It contains the
# configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
# See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/> for detailed information.
# In particular, see
# <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/directives.html>
# for a discussion of each configuration directive.
#
#
# Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
# what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure
# consult the online docs. You have been warned.
#
# The configuration directives are grouped into three basic sections:
# 1. Directives that control the operation of the Apache server process as a
# whole (the 'global environment').
# 2. Directives that define the parameters of the 'main' or 'default' server,
# which responds to requests that aren't handled by a virtual host.
# These directives also provide default values for the settings
# of all virtual hosts.
# 3. Settings for virtual hosts, which allow Web requests to be sent to
# different IP addresses or hostnames and have them handled by the
# same Apache server process.
#
# Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
# of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
# server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do *not* begin
# with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "logs/foo.log"
# with ServerRoot set to "/etc/httpd" will be interpreted by the
# server as "/etc/httpd/logs/foo.log".
#

### Section 1: Global Environment
#
# The directives in this section affect the overall operation of Apache,
# such as the number of concurrent requests it can handle or where it
# can find its configuration files.
#

#
# Don't give away too much information about all the subcomponents
# we are running. Comment out this line if you don't mind remote sites
# finding out what major optional modules you are running
ServerTokens OS

#
# ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
# configuration, error, and log files are kept.
#
# NOTE! If you intend to place this on an NFS (or otherwise network)
# mounted filesystem then please read the LockFile documentation
# (available at <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/mpm_common.html#lockfile>);
# you will save yourself a lot of trouble.
#
# Do NOT add a slash at the end of the directory path.
#
ServerRoot "/etc/httpd"

#
# PidFile: The file in which the server should record its process
# identification number when it starts.
#
PidFile run/httpd.pid

#
# Timeout: The number of seconds before receives and sends time out.
#
Timeout 120

#

# during a persistent connection. Set to 0 to allow an unlimited amount.
# We recommend you leave this number high, for maximum performance.
#
MaxKeepAliveRequests 100

#
# KeepAliveTimeout: Number of seconds to wait for the next request from the
# same client on the same connection.
#
KeepAliveTimeout 15

### Section 2: 'Main' server configuration
#
# The directives in this section set up the values used by the 'main'
# server, which responds to any requests that aren't handled by a
# <VirtualHost> definition. These values also provide defaults for
# any <VirtualHost> containers you may define later in the file.
#
# All of these directives may appear inside <VirtualHost> containers,
# in which case these default settings will be overridden for the
# virtual host being defined.
#

#
# ServerAdmin: Your address, where problems with the server should be
# e-mailed. This address appears on some server-generated pages, such
# as error documents. e.g. [email protected]
#
ServerAdmin [email protected]

#
# ServerName gives the name and port that the server uses to identify itself.
# This can often be determined automatically, but we recommend you specify
# it explicitly to prevent problems during startup.
#
# If this is not set to valid DNS name for your host, server-generated
# redirections will not work. See also the UseCanonicalName directive.
#
# If your host doesn't have a registered DNS name, enter its IP address here.
# You will have to access it by its address anyway, and this will make
# redirections work in a sensible way.
#
#ServerName www.example.com:80

#
# UseCanonicalName: Determines how Apache constructs self-referencing
# URLs and the SERVER_NAME and SERVER_PORT variables.
# When set "Off", Apache will use the Hostname and Port supplied
# by the client. When set "On", Apache will use the value of the
# ServerName directive.

### Section 3: Virtual Hosts
#
# VirtualHost: If you want to maintain multiple domains/hostnames on your
# machine you can setup VirtualHost containers for them. Most configurations
# use only name-based virtual hosts so the server doesn't need to worry about
# IP addresses. This is indicated by the asterisks in the directives below.
#
# Please see the documentation at
# <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/vhosts/>
# for further details before you try to setup virtual hosts.
#
# You may use the command line option '-S' to verify your virtual host
# configuration.

#
# Use name-based virtual hosting.
#
#NameVirtualHost *:80
#
# NOTE: NameVirtualHost cannot be used without a port specifier
# (e.g. :80) if mod_ssl is being used, due to the nature of the
# SSL protocol.
#

#
# VirtualHost example:
# Almost any Apache directive may go into a VirtualHost container.
# The first VirtualHost section is used for requests without a known
# server name.
#
#<VirtualHost *:80>
# ServerAdmin [email protected]
# DocumentRoot /www/docs/dummy-host.example.com
# ServerName dummy-host.example.com
# ErrorLog logs/dummy-host.example.com-error_log

(available at URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs-2.0/mod/core.html#lockfile);

you will save yourself a lot of trouble.

Do NOT add a slash at the end of the directory path.

ServerRoot "/etc/httpd"

PidFile: The file in which the server should record its process

identification number when it starts.

PidFile "/var/run/httpd.pid"

Timeout: The number of seconds before receives and sends time out.

TimeOut 300

KeepAlive: Whether or not to allow persistent connections (more than

one request per connection). Set to "Off" to deactivate.

KeepAlive on

MaxKeepAliveRequests: The maximum number of requests to allow

during a persistent connection. Set to 0 to allow an unlimited amount.

We recommend you leave this number high, for maximum performance.

MaxKeepAliveRequests 100

KeepAliveTimeout: Number of seconds to wait for the next request from the

same client on the same connection.

KeepAliveTimeout 15

Server-Pool Size Regulation (MPM specific)

prefork MPM

StartServers: number of server processes to start

MinSpareServers: minimum number of server processes which are kept spare

MaxSpareServers: maximum number of server processes which are kept spare

MaxClients: maximum number of server processes allowed to start

MaxRequestsPerChild: maximum number of requests a server process serves

<IfModule prefork.c> StartServers 8 MinSpareServers 5 MaxSpareServers 20 MaxClients 150 MaxRequestsPerChild 100 </IfModule>

Listen: Allows you to bind Apache to specific IP addresses and/or

ports, in addition to the default. See also the <VirtualHost>

directive.

Change this to Listen on specific IP addresses as shown below to

prevent Apache from glomming onto all bound IP addresses (0.0.0.0)

#Listen 12.34.56.78:80

User/Group: The name (or #number) of the user/group to run httpd as.

. On SCO (ODT 3) use "User nouser" and "Group nogroup".

. On HPUX you may not be able to use shared memory as nobody, and the

suggested workaround is to create a user www and use that user.

NOTE that some kernels refuse to setgid(Group) or semctl(IPC_SET)

when the value of (unsigned)Group is above 60000;

don't use Group #-1 on these systems!

User apache
Group apache

ServerAdmin: Your address, where problems with the server should be

e-mailed. This address appears on some server-generated pages, such

as error documents. e.g. [email protected]

ServerName gives the name and port that the server uses to identify itself.

This can often be determined automatically, but we recommend you specify

it explicitly to prevent problems during startup.

If this is not set to valid DNS name for your host, server-generated

redirections will not work. See also the UseCanonicalName directive.

If your host doesn't have a registered DNS name, enter its IP address here.

You will have to access it by its address anyway, and this will make

redirections work in a sensible way.

ServerName rndlinux

UseCanonicalName: Determines how Apache constructs self-referencing

URLs and the SERVER_NAME and SERVER_PORT variables.

When set "Off", Apache will use the Hostname and Port supplied

by the client. When set "On", Apache will use the value of the

ServerName directive.

DocumentRoot: The directory out of which you will serve your

documents. By default, all requests are taken from this directory, but

symbolic links and aliases may be used to point to other locations.

DocumentRoot "/var/www/html"

UserDir: The name of the directory that is appended onto a user's home

directory if a ~user request is received.

The path to the end user account 'public_html' directory must be

accessible to the webserver userid. This usually means that ~userid

must have permissions of 711, ~userid/public_html must have permissions

of 755, and documents contained therein must be world-readable.

Otherwise, the client will only receive a "403 Forbidden" message.

See also: http://httpd.apache.org/docs/misc/FAQ.html#forbidden

<IfModule mod_userdir.c> # # UserDir is disabled by default since it can confirm the presence # of a username on the system (depending on home directory # permissions). # UserDir "disable"
#
# To enable requests to /~user/ to serve the user's public_html
# directory, use this directive instead of "UserDir disable":
#
#UserDir public_html
</IfModule>

DirectoryIndex: sets the file that Apache will serve if a directory

is requested.

The index.html.var file (a type-map) is used to deliver content-

negotiated documents. The MultiViews Option can be used for the

same purpose, but it is much slower.

DirectoryIndex

AccessFileName: The name of the file to look for in each directory

for access control information. See also the AllowOverride directive.

AccessFileName .htaccess

TypesConfig describes where the mime.types file (or equivalent) is

to be found.

TypesConfig "/etc/mime.types"

DefaultType is the default MIME type the server will use for a document

if it cannot otherwise determine one, such as from filename extensions.

If your server contains mostly text or HTML documents, "text/plain" is

a good value. If most of your content is binary, such as applications

or images, you may want to use "application/octet-stream" instead to

keep browsers from trying to display binary files as though they are

text.

DefaultType text/plain

HostnameLookups: Log the names of clients or just their IP addresses

e.g., www.apache.org (on) or 204.62.129.132 (off).

The default is off because it'd be overall better for the net if people

had to knowingly turn this feature on, since enabling it means that

each client request will result in AT LEAST one lookup request to the

nameserver.

ErrorLog: The location of the error log file.

If you do not specify an ErrorLog directive within a <VirtualHost>

container, error messages relating to that virtual host will be

logged here. If you do define an error logfile for a <VirtualHost>

container, that host's errors will be logged there and not here.

ErrorLog "/var/log/httpd/error_log"

LogLevel: Control the number of messages logged to the error_log.

Possible values include: debug, info, notice, warn, error, crit,

alert, emerg.

LogLevel warn

The following directives define some format nicknames for use with

a CustomLog directive (see below).

Optionally add a line containing the server version and virtual host

name to server-generated pages (error documents, FTP directory listings,

mod_status and mod_info output etc., but not CGI generated documents).

Set to "EMail" to also include a mailto: link to the ServerAdmin.

Set to one of: On | Off | EMail

ServerSignature on

FancyIndexing is whether you want fancy directory indexing or standard.

VersionSort is whether files containing version numbers should be

compared in the natural way, so that `apache-1.3.9.tar' is placed before

`apache-1.3.12.tar'.

IndexOptions FancyIndexing VersionSort NameWidth=*

Customizable error responses come in three flavors:

1) plain text 2) local redirects 3) external redirects

Some examples:

#ErrorDocument 500 "The server made a boo boo."
#ErrorDocument 404 /missing.html
#ErrorDocument 404 "/cgi-bin/missing_handler.pl"
#ErrorDocument 402 http://www.example.com/subscription_info.html

Use name-based virtual hosting.

Where do we put the lock and pif files?

LockFile "/var/lock/httpd.lock"
CoreDumpDirectory "/etc/httpd"

Each directory to which Apache has access can be configured with respect

to which services and features are allowed and/or disabled in that

directory (and its subdirectories).

Note that from this point forward you must specifically allow

particular features to be enabled - so if something's not working as

you might expect, make sure that you have specifically enabled it

below.
