Add dif shipping rates together at checkout?

I've set up shipping rates based on the table rate module. I also need to set up a perunitweight shipping cost for some products. The problem is that at the point of checkout, the customer chooses which shipping option instead of the shipping costs being added together. Is there a way of adding the shipping costs together at checkout so that all shipping costs can be factored? Thank you.

You would need to customize a shipping module capable of identifying the products and which uses what method and then building the combo for the total shipping costs ...
