Space above and below mainWrapper

Hello, how would a make a space above and one below the mainWrapper to show my background image in the body? If its PHP code in the tpl_header and tpl_footer then what would I add? I dont know anything about PHP...

stylesheet and add margin-top and margin-bottom with your desired space or just margin to the body tag
