Name/Email/Password *only* Registration

Hi guys,

I spent a couple hours the other night modifying the PHP to accept a registration with only fields for First Name, email address, and password.

If you'd like to test it out, here is the site:

I have put 2 test products on the site so you can go through the order process and see that that I have removed the "address book" from the ordering process and My Account pages.

I suggest testing it with the free product so you can go to the Order Status after you complete the order. Unless you just really wanna pay me $1, which is cool too :smartalec:

The modifications were made in order to offer digital, or in my case, affiliate products for sale. Offering affiliate products make this even easier, as the "shopping cart" part won't even be utilized (unless you wanted to).

To be honest, I'm actually thinking about switching to the Plone platform to build this site because of it's... "non-shopping cart" nature.
But I can easily see making this into an automated digital delivery site.

Or, if you were selling digital products, simply configure Download attributes on the items. You could also put model names on each product, then configure an autoresponder to include a download URL for every model number listed when an order comes in. Set up in this way, you'd have a completely automated store with instant delivery!

The question is, is there enough interest for me to go through and make a really clean Contribution for this? Would anybody actually want to use this?

If there is enough interest, I may even make it more configurable via the Admin Backend.

By the way... Feel free to actually make an account to test it if you'd like, they'll all get deleted anyway.

I've modified my site to do this as well. Just a head's up: there is a huge caveat to the mod. In quite a few places Zen expects to find records in the address_book table for each customer record. You'll have to find any place where an inner join takes place between the tables and change it to a left join (and compensate for possible null values in the page logic afterwards). Most of this logic takes place in the header_php.php files which are not override-able, so each time you update Zen you will have to port the changes by hand.

The same is true on the back-end admin interface. Some calls to array_merge fail because there are no address_book values to merge. You will not be able to edit customers that don't have a default address w/o modifying customer.php (I think) as well.

That's just my $0.02. I'd really like to see Zen have a more flexible registration routine. Asking the customer for so much info up front was causing many of them to turn away. Now, they can sign up for the newsletter (there is another mod to do this as well), get product notifications, and "tell a friend" w/o having to supply their physical address. Unfortunately, I've hacked myself a non-standard cart to do it. I think there was some talk about the sign-up process being more flexible to support PayPal express and WPP, but I don't know if they've made all the changes they intend to make.
