All email sent from 'nobody'

Hello,

This is the first big problem I ran into. :frusty:

All my email is being sent from 'nobody'.
I asked my host about the option "Prevent the user 'nobody'
from sending out mail to remote addresses",
they say it's 'OFF' by default.

Re: All email sent from 'nobody'

Thank you for your quick reply.
I've tried both smtp and smtpauth but never got it to work.

This is the setting I use for smtpauth:

E-Mail Transport Method: smtpauth
E-Mail Linefeeds: LF
Use MIME HTML When Sending Emails: false
Verify E-Mail Addresses Through DNS: false
Send E-Mails: true
Email Archiving Active: false
E-Mail Friendly-Errors: true
Email Address (Displayed to Contact you): me@my_domain.com
Email Address (sent FROM): me@my_domain.com
Email Admin Format: TEXT
SMTP Email Account Mailbox: me@my_domain.com
SMTP Email Account Password: *********
SMTP Email Mail Host: mail.my_domain.com
SMTP Email Mail Server Port: 26

I use the same info for outlook to receive email from this address.
I don't know why it doesn't work for zen cart.....

Re: All email sent from 'nobody'

'Nobody' is the Apache web server that is running your site. It is a username, just like admin, root, or any other. It simply means that the mail was sent by the web server.

The one setting you never mention in regard to PHP or sendmail -f is Admin-Config-Email Options-
Email must send from known domain.

It is a good idea to set that to 'yes' or 'true'.

What you set your Outlook email client to has nothing to do with your server settings at your hosting company. You should ask them -
Is it possible to use smtp for website mail?
If so, is it plain smtp or smtpauth?
And, what are the server, port, user and password settings to use.

Re: All email sent from 'nobody'

ou can also ask your host if they offer accounts on servers with phpsuexec,
that is the BEST solution,
the emails are always sent out as the username

Re: All email sent from 'nobody'

Yes, "Email must send from known domain" is set to "true".
I tried all of the methods - sendmail, sendamil-f, smtp, smtpauth.
I tried port 26 and port 25....
Phpsuexec sounds great, but they don't offer it at this time.

Re: All email sent from 'nobody'

I'd love to upgrade, but v1.3.0.2 is the latest for Japanese version....
Isn't there any solution other than upgrading?

Re: All email sent from 'nobody'

It can take some time, but you can re-use most of the languages files for ZC 1.3.7, and all the buttons too. So it's not like you start from scratch.
