Convert osCommerce (2003) to Zen Cart latest

I've got a challenge and have no clue how to do this:

osCommerce (from 2003) be converted into ZC latest.

How do I do this? Have searched and not found the answer. Remember that in the old forum there was a space for this...

However, can I do some sort of export of product list and then somehow import this to a fresh install of Zen Cart?

Where there's a question, -there may be an answer!

Did I mention that the ZC team rules(!!!) ???

Yes, you can do it. Look in the FAQs for some pointers, and search the forum on relevant keywords - people have posted some details for this.

The template is not at all transferable, and will need to be recreated from scratch. Zen Cart's template override system and CSS styling will make it relatively straightforward.

Yup, I'll try the FAQ - of course ;-)

Have searched on "converting oscommerce" etc but only got a lot about converting mods etc. Not anything I've seen about the whole system.

I'll dig the FAQ first... Thanks!

Re: Convert osCommerce (2003) to Zen Cart latest

I have a quick question about the information contained in the afore mentioned wiki article "Porting modules from osC "
When talking about replacing code, it says,

Replace code like

$my_var_query = tep_db_query("query stuff");
$my_var = tep_db_fetch_array($my_var_query);

>
> by
>
> ```
$my_var = $db->Execute("query stuff");

Notice I have the word like in red.

My question is, are we supposed to look for code that resembles (looks like) or code that is EXACTLY like what is mentioned?

Also, the bits of code mentioned on that one page you referenced,
http://www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.php/Developers_-_Porting_modules_from_osC, is that pretty much all we need to replace in the php in order to get an OSC mod ready for porting (aside from figuring out folders and directories)? The information available for those of us that are just getting started with coding is ambiguous at best on this subject.

Thanks,

Tom

Re: Convert osCommerce (2003) to Zen Cart latest

At the risk of sounding ambiguous ... that wiki article outlines the main issues that need to be addressed in order to begin adapting something written for the other shopping cart to potentially be used in Zen Cart v1.2.x or v1.3.x. It lists a number of the kinds of code changes that will be required.

In the case you mentioned, the word "like" is aptly used. ie: I doubt you're going to see any line in a mod that actually says "$my_var_query = tep_deb_query("query_stuff");".

You must keep in mind that Zen Cart is no longer just the other shopping cart with a new name. It has been substantially improved over time. While many concepts remain similar, there have been many changes that may mean something you're attempting to port may require more than just a few changes to function names and methods of accessing data.

Re: Convert osCommerce (2003) to Zen Cart latest

So it would be safe to assume then that porting an OSC mod, using the wiki tips would be a trial and error, mostly error, process?

I had pretty much guessed that "query stuff" was a generic term to depict, well, query stuff in general.

With that said, step one:

Go through the osc module and replace all of the code mentioned in the wiki that I can find.

Step two:

Test,

Step three:

start posting questions

Does that sound about right?
