My logo.gif won't display, but old one will...

My logo.gif won't display, but the old one that came with the template I installed displays just fine. All I did was change the initial logo.gif to "logo.gif.wallet" , saved my .gif to the same folder (using local server) and renamed mine to "logo.gif". I created the .gif file in Photoshop. What am I doing wrong?!! Thanks in advance for any help.

Did you press the "refresh" button in your browser ?
Did you clear your browser's cache contents ?

Re: My logo.gif won't display, but old one will...

Make sure you rename the old one or delete it, and make sure it was a full rename of the new one with the correct file extension. I've done that before, thinking I had the right file extension. Easy to do that when adding extra . to the file name like you did.

Sometimes I've had to delete the old one completely first before the new one would "take." Don't know why -- I think my ftp program is old and cranky and I'm too lazy to get a new one right now but I should. LOL

Re: My logo.gif won't display, but old one will...

I've done everything I can imagine. I've used other images, deleted all images and started over, double and tripple checked the file extensions.....everything. I'm not using an FTP program because I'm using a local server. I could understand it if my image was corrupted or something. When I point to an image that isn't there, I get that empty box with the 'X' in it. When I load this image, there is no box...no nothing. I can view the image in irfan, ms viewer and the image is actually posted on my website at https://www.thelotetree.com. It is the banner at the top. I worked hard on the image so I don't want to trash it, I just want to be able to display it in my zencart pages. Please help if you can!

Thanks mucho!

What's the HTML being used to load the image, according to your browser?
a. open the page
b. choose View Source in your browser's menu
c. copy/paste the contents here

Re: My logo.gif won't display, but old one will...

I just did a file compare of the source codes from the working and non-working logos. They are different but I don't know why. Here are the differences.

The working one -

<div id="logo"><a href="http://localhost/LoteRoot/zencart/"><img src="includes/templates/wallet/images/logo.gif" alt="Handmade Luxury for Everyone!" title=" Handmade Luxury for Everyone! " width="758" height="124" /></a></div>

The non-working one -

<div id="logo"><a href="http://localhost/LoteRoot/zencart/"></a></div>

The old logo shows up.

....but logo is still the name of the old file. When I go to http://localhost/LoteRoot/zencart/includes/...../images/lotelogo.gif or LoteMainBanner.gif (which is what I have my images named in that folder) they appear just fine in the browser.

Problem is, the code is not there to point to the images when I point to them, but it is when I point to the old logo.gif. Even if I change the name of the old logo.gif to working.gif, it still shows up. I'm baffled!!!!

I'm sorry -- I'm not following you.

  1. put your NEW logo as logo.gif in the** LoteRoot/zencart/includes/templates/wallet/images/** folder

  2. Point your browser to this address: http://localhost/LoteRoot/zencart/includes/templates/wallet/images/logo.gif

What happens?

  1. Now press F5 and then Ctrl-F5. What happens?

Re: My logo.gif won't display, but old one will...

Here is another copy of source code from by browser....

This is the one that generates with no logo in it. I moved the old logo out and named mine 'logo.gif'.

<div id="logo"><a href="http://localhost/LoteRoot/zencart/"></a></div>

This is the one that is generating the old logo even after I renamed it 'workingone.gif'.

<div id="logo"><a href="http://localhost/LoteRoot/zencart/"><img src="includes/templates/wallet/images/workingone.gif" alt="Handmade Luxury for Everyone!" title=" Handmade Luxury for Everyone! " width="758" height="124" /></a></div>

I don't understand why the img tag is not being generated!

Re: My logo.gif won't display, but old one will...

Ok, I will try to explain.

I downloaded the "Wallet" style contribution from this site. I replaced the "includes" folder as per instructions. I modified the settings from my admin panel to suite my taste and then started to make mods for other appearances that I want. One of which was to change the header logo to display my banner which was originally named "LoteMainBanner.gif". Following instructions that I found on the site,

I first opened the ../includes/templates/wallet/images folder and changed the name of the existing logo named "logo.gif" to "logo.gif.old"

Then I saved my image "LoteMainBanner.gif" to the same folder.

Then I opened the ../included/language/english/wallet/header.php file and edited the proper 'define' fields.

from -
// added defines for header alt and text
define('HEADER_ALT_TEXT', '');
define('HEADER_SALES_TEXT', '');
define('HEADER_LOGO_WIDTH', '758');
define('HEADER_LOGO_HEIGHT', '122');
define('HEADER_LOGO_IMAGE', 'logo.gif');

to -
// added defines for header alt and text
define('HEADER_ALT_TEXT', 'Handmade Luxury for Everyone!');
define('HEADER_SALES_TEXT', 'Hankmade Luxury with Purpose');
define('HEADER_LOGO_WIDTH', '728');
define('HEADER_LOGO_HEIGHT', '90');
define('HEADER_LOGO_IMAGE', 'LoteMainBanner.gif');

That didn't work.

I then went back and named my banner "logo.gif", modified the header.php accordingly and tried again.

Still didn't work.

Then, just for fun, I renamed the original image (the one I'm trying to change, from "logo.gif.old" to "workingone.gif". That worked by showing the original image.

I thought that it might be a problem with my image so I re-saved it to several different names from several different programs (including right clicking on it in my browser and saving from there) into both .gif and .jpg images. All of them were viewable in my browser and all other programs (paintshop, photoshop, fireworks, irfan view, IE7 and Firefox. None of them would show up when saved in the ../includes/templates/wallet/images folder with their names added to the header.php file in ../included/languages/english/wallet.

When I compared the generated HTML from the one that displayed the logo to the one that didn't display my logo, I found that there was some code missing in the HTML that was supposed to display my banner.

Here is the code that is missing from the one not working....

<img src="includes/templates/wallet/images/workingone.gif" alt="Handmade Luxury for Everyone!" title=" Handmade Luxury for Everyone! " width="758" height="124" />

It just looks like this....

<div id="logo"><a href="http://localhost/LoteRoot/zencart/"> :mellow:</a></div>

The smiley is where the code should be in mine, but isn't. Does that make any sense?

I can't figure out what is making the HTML code generate differently when all I'm doing is changing the name of the image file in the header.php. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Vood

All I would do from the start would be delete logo.gif and put a new logo.gif file in its place.

In fact, if you open the classic images folder, and delete the logo.gif there, put your new image there, named as logo.gif, and then switch your template back to classic (via the admin), what happens?

I will try that. I'm thinking that it could have something to do with my using a Dreamweaver testsite. I will let you know if I figure it out. Thanks for all your help.

Re: My logo.gif won't display, but old one will...

It's really strange that I'm able to place my banner image as the header background by changing the stylesheet.css, but it won't work in the logo slot. I've decided to go that route to display the banner, but now I keep getting the old 'image missing' box with the red X. I'm going to keep trying on it. Maybe someone knows how to get rid of it. I can't wait to get my zencart book in the mail!!! Thanks all.

Re: My logo.gif won't display, but old one will...

Your logo won't print if it's a background image, so be prepared for that as a side-effect of your current approach.

If you want the broken logo image to not appear, add **#logo {display: none;} **to your stylesheet.

What happens if you try the classic template?

Do these same issues "follow" you if you put it all on a live server?

Re: My logo.gif won't display, but old one will...

I'm less worried about print than getting my shop up and running.
I'm afraid that if I switch back to the classic, I will loose all of my modifications. I haven't tried the live server yet. I will try the stylesheet trick.

I tried to just turn the existing #logo and #logowrapper tags into comments by adding //, but it made my whole header vanish. I may just have to start from scratch.

The help files say to stay away from the 'classic' and use the 'default' style. I have no idea why, but I thought about it when you mentioned the 'classic' as an options. Thanks.
