New to Zen-Cart

Hello everyone

My Name is chuck and I am totatly lost.I think I have building the pages down ok. Now I want to change some things on the template. I don't know anything about php let alone where you get the code from. Basisly all I want to do is get rid of the Congratulations! you have successfully installed your Zen-Cart and at the topsales message goes here and the Zen-Cart Logo has to go.

So, if someone could see their way clear (when they have time) to point me in the right direction I would appreciate. I do not know where to go or to get all this code. Please help.

I think I have rambled on enough for now.

Best Regards

Chuck

Re: New to Zen-Cart

Snap.

Text like that will usually be in the /includes/languages/your_language folder. In your case /inlcudes/languages/english. Since it is the main page of the shop, it is there in index.php.

A useful tool for such text searches if the Developers Toolkit in Admin-Tools. Use the bottom set of search fields, enter the word or words you are looking for in the leftmost box, select whether you want to search Admin files, shop Catalog files or both, and bingo.

Rgds,

Chuck

Re: New to Zen-Cart

You'll save yourself a lot of trouble and heartache if you create your own custom template and play around with that instead of the files that came with Zen Cart.

To create a very basic custom template (you can build from there), you need:

  • includes/languages/YOUR_TEMPLATE/english.php
  • includes/languages/english/YOUR_TEMPLATE/index.php
  • includes/languages/english/YOUR_TEMPLATE/header.php (to change the logo)
  • includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/template_info.php
  • includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/common/tpl_header.php
  • includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/common/tpl_footer.php
  • includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/images/logo.gif
  • includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/css/stylesheet.css

Anywhere you see a /classic/ folder, you can create a folder for your custom template. You can copy the necessary files from either the /classic/ folder, the /template_default/ folder or the parent folder.

Edit includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/template_info.php to give your template identifying information so you'll recognize it in the admin under tools->template selection.

Re: New to Zen-Cart

If English isn't going to be the language of your cart, replace the english folders in my example with the language you're using.

The beauty of creating a custom template is that if you mess something up, you can always start over with the original file.
