Where should I put PDF files?

We have some PDF files that we would like to share with our customers ... with, of course, proper attribution and permission . They are magazine articles and the like about our industry and our business in particular. I'm not sure yet if we will open them as separate browser windows (or tabs) or if we will include them on some of our pages via embed or iframe.

Is there a "proper" place in the current (or planned) Zen Cart directory structure to place these sort of files (PDFs, objects, clumps, thingies, etc.)? They're not really "images" (but then again they sorta are). Or if there isn't an official place for them, does anyone have any recommendations about where to store them so that I won't get banged up when we update the site. I would like to keep them within the ZC structure so that they are included when we do backups.

Any and every suggestion is appreciated.

Re: Where should I put PDF files?

If you can grab the text you can make them ezpages or using ezpages you can provide an external link to these and in this link store them where ever you like

Re: Where should I put PDF files?

Since it is not a product that you sell, you don't care if your visitors or customers know where the PDF files are located. I would create a PDF directory in my main directory and put them there and as Cobra said, I would create an easy page with all my links to all my PDF articles on that page, but of course there are many other way to do it.

K & A, thanks for the input.

kobra:

If you can grab the text ...

Kobra ... I'd like to keep them as PDFs (with the original publisher's graphics, layout, etc.). They (one so far, at least) look very professional. And if they are in the original format, there is less question about if we altered them or done anything else nefarious.

Araunah:

Since it is not a product that you sell, ...

Araunah, I do plan on using EZ-Pages ... just not sure if it will be a page of links or a bunch of pages with embeds/iframes.

My basic question -- Is there a "right" place to put these extra files within the ZC directory structure so that I don't shoot myself in the foot down the road. So far it sounds like I can probably just create a directory anywhere I choose and I should be okay.

Yes you can create a directory anywhere, I would keep it separate from the regular zencart folder structure personally but it's not even an obligation.

If creating ezpage external links to these then there is no requirement nor suggested structure that they have to be in.

Place them outside of the cart files and you do not have to be concerned with losing them
