Creating a UK Configuration for Zencart

Can someone please tell me (or list here) the steps I need to take to set Zencart up with the UK as the default country and all the settings geared for the UK.

What plugins are required?

Is there a single installation which is geared for the UK instead of the US?

Please list everything here - Thanks for your help

Paul

Re: Creating a UK Configuration for Zencart

Thanks Kobra but I was hoping more for a list of steps I would need to take myself to customise Zencart for the UK. I want to learn how to do if without a template - step by step. Exactly what plugins people use and which files need to be changed, any links to tips and tricks for the UK.

Perhaps if the thread is useful it can then be made a sticky so all the UK stuff is in one place.

Just an observation...

Why re-invent the wheel?

You can always study how the template is constructed and learn from that.

Otherwise, I think you'll end up having to go through each and every language file that comes with Zen Cart and make your edits.

As far as plugins go you can use most of the ones from the downloads section.

for specific UK plugins contributions There are a bunch of them from shipping mods to payment mods.

Re: Creating a UK Configuration for Zencart

I am hoping to create a step by step list of things which must be changed in order to customise zencart for the UK. The UK template is great except it is is a standalone template. When one wants to use a different template, files still need to be merged and changed. So the question I originally asked is still valid and not reinventing the wheel.

What plugins are available for the UK? Please list them here. I know there are lots for download but a definitive UK only list does not seem to exist.

If at the very least all we get from this thread is a list of links to contribs and discussions about UK specific topics, this will prove a useful thread for others in the future. Please do not dismiss it with "Why reinvent the wheel?". Let others be the judge of what is and is not usful to them.

For my part, I really want to know exactly what is required to turn zencart into a UK friendly back end from raw download to getting a UK store online.

Thanks for any help in advance

Here's a list of some things that would have to be done: (from the UK template description)

Americanized spellings are changed to UK spelling

the weight 'lbs' is changed to 'kgs'

sets Zen Cart to the UK date and time format

adds all of the UK counties to your database

adds Scotland, Wales, England, NI, CI to the countries list and then adds the counties into those countries

adds ROI counties to the ROI

sets the default location for the store to the UK

adds the VAT zones to the UK and sets two VAT rates. The current VAT rate and VAT exempt.

Sets the address format to display as we expect here in the UK

Sets the UK as the default country of sign up for your new clients

Most of these involve both the admin and catalog side of Zen Cart.

In addition you could always contact the author of the template for additional input.

Re: Creating a UK Configuration for Zencart

Thanks for your additions ClydeJones.

It seems one plugin most definitely required is the Big Royal Mail Contribution in order to take advantage of Royal mail shipping.

Any other plugins recommended for a UK setup?

Valid From?? There is an expiration date or should be - What is a valid from date?
If different than expiration - then to store this will require some custom code and database work to have a place to retain this vaiue

Kobra
Some credit cards have Valid From (Start date) and Valid To (Expiry Date).

Would the code not be the same as it is currently i.e. could you not just copy the code for the expiry date and fudge it so it works for the valid from date?

Code would be similar - - but where are you going to store this?

Re: Creating a UK Configuration for Zencart

Here is a thread which tells you step by step how to change the date and time from US format to UK date and time format:
