Define pages editor won't update pages

Hi there,

I am trying to update one of my defined pages using the define pages editor. Even though it's updated in the editor when I save it, the changes aren't reflected on the page in the store. Is there a template cache somewhere that needs to be flushed? Thanks for your help

Re: Define pages editor won't update pages

You probably need to change the permissions temporarily to 777 on both the directory and the files. then change it back to 644 when finished.

Re: Define pages editor won't update pages

I'm having the same problem, tried messing with my permissions but it doesn't work. It doesn't make sense to me, because the files are changing somewhere in order for the admin to recognize the changes.... they changes are just not being relayed onto the live website.

Could it be I somehow did not set up About_us mod correctly for each of the pages I made? Because default pages created by Zen-Cart seem to be updating.

I think in the future Zen-Cart really needs to make inserting a new page much, much easier. Like Wordpress easy. I guess I'll go and recheck everything and see if I'm missing any vital files and check back here. If you have to have all of these different pages, there should be a tool in the admin to generate them all for you.

Re: Define pages editor won't update pages

Do you have your custom template folder in place in includes/languages/english/html_includes, with copies of the define_filename.php files in it that you plan to customize?

Is it the About Us page only that you're having problems with?

Re: Define pages editor won't update pages

For fast, easy page insertion, you can use the EZ Pages tool. It even builds its own menus.

Re: Define pages editor won't update pages

Actually, I have a few custom pages set up as follows:

about
about the artist
faq
links

Everything except about the artist works as it should, so I definitely don't think there's a problem with permissions. I checked to make sure I have all of the files needed to make it work, and I do. Maybe there is some kind of defect in my files for the artist page...maybe I should try creating it again?

I tried using that once and I had no idea what I was doing... and in most circumstances I would say I am fairly intelligent.

Re: Define pages editor won't update pages

OK! I found the problem. Thanks for hearing me out people. I guess in a way it helped me think through the problem. I'm documenting this for the good of public knowledge.

I began by double checking all of the artist files I had created, and in /includes/modules/artist/header_php.php I discovered a piece of code I neglected to change.

Of course, this code could be anywhere throughout your pages, so if you're having a problem with the About_us mod, just go through it all from the start. You should have a list in the readme file, but I'm copying it over here just in case!

 /includes/extra_datafiles/about_us_filenames.php
   /includes/languages/english/extra_definitions/MYTEMPLATE/about_us.php
/includes/languages/english/html_includes/define_about_us.php (this adds the page to the drop down box in Define Pages Editor)
   /includes/languages/english/html_includes/MYTEMPLATE/define_about_us.php
   /includes/languages/english/MYTEMPLATE/about_us.php
   /includes/modules/pages/about_us/header_php.php
   /includes/modules/sideboxes/MYTEMPLATE/information.php
   /includes/templates/MYTEMPLATE/templates/tpl_about_us_default.php

Re: Define pages editor won't update pages

Go to Configuration > Define Page Status, make sure you have set it so that the text can be displayed.

Re: Define pages editor won't update pages

I switched from plain text to html area and lost all the information I had added through the define pages editor. When I look at the actual files the information is there and it even updates from the editor, it just won't display in my browser. I've emptied the cache and restarted with no avail. Any ideas would be great.
Thank you,
Chris

Re: Define pages editor won't update pages

All of the other pages still won't display. Text is in the actual file, but not on the website!

Re: Define pages editor won't update pages

I'm kind of going on and on here. I feel silly for responding to myself so many times, but a handful of my pages are through the define pages editor. Whether I edit the files myself or use the define pages, I can't get the site to reflect any of the changes. I've replaced them with backup files in an attempt to start anew, nothing. . . Help please.:shocking:
Thank you,
Chris

Re: Define pages editor won't update pages

Well, I went into configuration define page status and set some values to 3 and then back to 1, and all seems to be well. So your plan of letting me work through this myself, worked. True Zen Masters!

Re: Define pages editor won't update pages

Hi all

Ive just found something thats a little weird and would like some clarification on it

One of my customers has been telling me that they add a link to an image they have on their main page (created using define pages editor) and when clicked on the home page it does nothing, but the mouse pointer clearly suggests a link is their.

I checked and the link is in place inside the actual file.

Upon further investigation, 2 computers with IE7 no them show the same issue but both computers also have firefox and it works as it should do when using firefox

can anyone confirm there is a bug in IE7 of this nature

you can see her page here and the main page top image (new caboshons) when clicked should take you to the cabochons section, try it in IE6, 7 and FF if possible.
