Truly randomize New Products list? (they only seem randomized within a small group)

I've read 20 or so posts on the subject but I'm not finding the information I want.

Most seem old, referring to v1.2 and the new customization options it offers.

I'm not sure how zen cart does its randomizing, but my products come out of clumps.

I added a new category. If I see anything from that category, I'm going to see 5 others.

I have some products that are very simple variations of another. Nearly the same name, creation date, and one up model number. If I ever see one model on the "new products" module, I will see the other as well.

Is there a way to make this completely random? New products as well as old products at once?

My new products are set to 0, so that every product is always considered a new product.

I display 15 products on the main page. Thanks !

We have changed the randomization in the upcoming v1.3.8 that should give a more random random ... :cool:

I'm so new to this whole community (i dunno a month or so now reading?) that its hard to get a grasp on whats been asked, whats in progress, and all that other good stuff.

When would is 1.3.8 slated to be released? I'm finding information on a 2008 1.4, does that mean 1.3.8 is not as far as I might think?
