Confused about how to set up categories/products and attributes for them
Hi....I'm setting up a store that is going to sell T-Shirts. There will be mens t-shirts, women's and children's. In men's t-shirts, there will be short sleeved, long sleeved, tank tops, etc. Same thing for the womens. I've set up my main category as "T-Shirts", then subs for mens, women's, childrens. Then under mens, I'm setting up subs for short sleeves, long sleeves, etc. Then under short sleeves are more subs for the 9 different designs of shirts. This is where I get confused. I know that you can set up attributes for a product, which I could set up for people to select their size, but how does this get "sent" to the database to tell it that a Large was bought and to substract it from the amount in stock instead of just a shirt being bought? Or do I need to set up a product for every t-shirt, i.e., every man's short sleeve shirt in Nascar design in every size? I noticed that if I do that though, it lists them all out in the products on the left, which will get unruly. I know that when I go to buy a shirt, I get a chance to pick what size I want. I guess ultimately I'm trying to figure out how to do that so that the inventory is reduced correctly.
I hope this made sense, because, believe me, I go around and around in circles with this one. I appreciate any help and advice!
